History Pre-incorporation Benton City was originally platted by the North Coast Railroad in 1909. The line was originally conceived as the North Coast Railroad in 1909, then came under ownership of the Oregon Washington Railroad and Navigation Company in 1913 when North Coast was merged with Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company before becoming part of the Union Pacific RailroadIt took its name from Benton S. Benton City is a ghost town in Atascosa County, Texas, Atascosa County, Texas, United States, sometimes also called "Benton", located on Benton City Road (FM 3175) along Atascosa Creek, 3 miles east of present-day Lytle, Texas, Lytle, 27 miles southwest of San Antonio. History Benton City was first settled in the 1840s on what was once known as the Old San Antonio Road. By 1880, the town had grown to include three cotton gins, a hotel, several grocery stores, a newspaper, a drug store, a blacksmith, a carpenter shop, a saddle and boot shop, a sawmill, a livery stable, several churches, a Masonic lodge, and a school.
