Benjamine C. Huffman
Benjamine Carry Huffman is an American law enforcement official who served as Director of Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, acting United States secretary of homeland security from January 20 to 25, 2025 and acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security from January 28 to February 4, 2025. Early life Huffman's family comes from Stanton, Texas, and he grew up in West Texas. He attended Permian High School in Odessa, where he graduated in 1979. He later attended South Plains College, where he received an associate's degree in criminal justice, and Sul Ross State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in general studies and a master's degree in homeland security. He worked in Stanton until 1985. Career Huffman entered on duty with the United States Border Patrol on February 3, 1985, as a member of Border Patrol Academy Class 173. Permian High School is a public high school located in Odessa, Texas and is one of two high schools in the Ector County Independent School District. It was the subject of the book '' Friday Night Lights'', which in turn inspired a movie and TV series of the same name. Operation Snowcap (1987–1995), launched in the spring of 1987, was a counter-narcotics operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), BORTAC (U.S. Border Patrol Tactical Unit) and military/police forces in nine Latin American countries. Operation Snowcap followed Operation Blast Furnace, a four month operation that started in July 1986, which deployed 160 Army personnel and six Blackhawk helicopters to assist Bolivia in operations against cocaine laboratories in the Beni and Santa Cruz regions of Bolivia. BORTAC
The Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) is one of two police tactical units in the Special Operations Group, under the United States Border Patrol (USBP) that specialize in counterterrorism, high-risk tactical law enforcement situations, hostage rescue, operating in difficult to access terrain, reconnaissance, and tactical special operations. In 2007, BORTAC was placed under the command of the newly formed Special Operations Group (SOG) together with the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR).
