Bloody Benders
The Bender family, more well known as the Bloody Benders, were a family of serial killers in Labette County, Kansas, United States, from May 1871 to December 1872. The family supposedly consisted of John Bender, his wife Kate Sr. (or Almira), their son John Jr. and their daughter Kate Jr.. Contemporary newspaper accounts reported that the Benders' neighbors claimed John Jr. and Kate were actually husband and wife, possibly via a common-law marriage. In 1890, Elvira Hill and her daughter Mrs Sarah Davis, both of Michigan, were charged for being Ma and Kate Bender. They proved they were not and were released. Estimates report that the Benders killed at least a dozen travelers and perhaps as many as 20 before they were discovered. The family's fate remains unknown, with theories ranging from a lynching to an escape. Much folklore and legend surround the Benders, making it difficult to separate fact from fiction. Background In October 1870, five families of spiritualists homestea ...

Benders Decomposition
Benders decomposition (or Benders' decomposition) is a technique in mathematical programming that allows the solution of very large linear programming problems that have a special block structure. This block structure often occurs in applications such as stochastic programming as the uncertainty is usually represented with scenarios. The technique is named after Jacques F. Benders. The strategy behind Benders decomposition can be summarized as ''divide-and-conquer''. That is, in Benders decomposition, the variables of the original problem are divided into two subsets so that a first-stage master problem is solved over the first set of variables, and the values for the second set of variables are determined in a second-stage subproblem for a given first-stage solution. If the subproblem determines that the fixed first-stage decisions are in fact infeasible, then so-called ''Benders cuts'' are generated and added to the master problem, which is then re-solved until no cuts can be ...

Jacques F
Jacques or Jacq are believed to originate from the Middle Ages in the historic northwest Brittany region in France, and have since spread around the world over the centuries. To date, there are over one hundred identified noble families related to the surname by the Nobility & Gentry of Great Britain & Ireland. Origins The origin of this surname comes from the Latin ' Iacobus', associated with the biblical patriarch Jacob. Ancient history A French knight returning from the Crusades in the Holy Lands probably adopted the surname from "Saint Jacques" (or "James the Greater"). James the Greater was one of Jesus' Twelve Apostles, and is believed to be the first martyred apostle. Being endowed with this surname was an honor at the time and it is likely that the Church allowed it because of acts during the Crusades. Indeed, at this time, the use of biblical, Christian, or Hebrew names and surnames became very popular, and entered the European lexicon. Robert J., a Knight Crusader ...

Johan Benders
Johan Benders (July 1, 1907 – 6 April 1943) was a Dutch teacher who helped protect Jews in Amsterdam during World War II. He killed himself to protect the Jews he was harboring from being discovered and was posthumously named a Righteous Among the Nations. Biography Benders was born on July 1, 1907 in Bloemendaal. He was a Dutch teacher at the Amsterdams Lyceum. During World War II, Benders and his wife, Gerritdina Letteboer, lived in Amstelveen and became involved in the resistance. Johan was furious about the removal of the Jewish pupils from the school in 1941. Benders encouraged his students to manufacture false identification papers and food ration cards for Jews in order to help them escape persecution by the occupying Nazi Germany. He and his wife sheltered several Jews in their home. In 1943, however, they were betrayed by a neighbor and Johan was arrested by the Gestapo. In prison, he was tortured. Johan Benders had tried to kill himself twice though survived ...
