Believe 'n Peace
Malta was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 with the song "Believe 'n Peace", composed by Christopher Scicluna, with lyrics by Moira Stafrace, and performed by Times Three. The Maltese participating broadcaster, Public Broadcasting Services (PBS), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision ''Malta Song for Europe 1999'' Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) held the national final on 19 and 20 February 1999 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, hosted by Mariella Scerri and Joseph Chetcuti. 16 songs competed, and the winner was decided by an expert jury. Georgina and Paul Giordimaina represented , and Georgina was also a backing singer . Claudette Pace would go on to represent the country . Public Broadcasting Services Limited (PBS) is the public broadcaster of Malta. PBS is funded by government grants and the sale of commercial airtime. Its TVM channel is Malta's most watched television channel, and its radio station Magic Malta enjoys huge popularity among local and foreign listeners. Each year on 13 December, PBS hosts an open day, where the public takes a visit in the building and have a look at the sets of the channels and radios. Christopher Scicluna
Chris & Moira were a Maltese musical duo, formed by Moira Stafrace and Christopher Scicluna. They were best known for representing Malta in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. Life and career Stafrace was born in Malta in 1970. At the age of 12 she started her singing career. She bought a guitar and she started to sing with many bands. She took part in numerous festivals where she won many awards. In 1992 she was given the award for Best Personality in the music industry of her country. In 1993 she met and fell in love with a guitarist, Chris Scicluna. Scicluna was born in Malta in 8 July 1959 and started music studies at the age of 8 and spent most of the 1980s freelancing in the United Kingdom. The Eurovision Song Contest 1999 was the 44th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 29 May 1999 at the International Convention Centre in Jerusalem, Israel. Mediterranean Conference Centre
The Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC, ) is a conference centre in Valletta, Malta. The building was built as a hospital in the 16th century by the Order of St. John, and it was known as the Sacra Infermeria or the Holy Infirmary (). It was known as the Grand Hôspital during the French occupation of Malta and during the British period was named as the Station Hospital. It was one of the leading hospitals in Europe until the 18th century, and remained in use until 1920. It had a capacity to keep from 500 to 2,500 patients. The building is now used for multiple banquets, exhibitions, international conventions and theatrical shows. Claudette Buttigieg (née Pace, 8 February 1968) is a Maltese member of parliament, Deputy Speaker, and former TV presenter and singer. Personal life and Eurovision Song Contest Born in Naxxar, she won the Malta Song For Europe festival in January 2000, with the song ''Desire.'' The song is her debut and only single. Fabrizio Faniello
Fabrizio Faniello (born 27 April 1981) is a Maltese pop singer. He represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 and 2006. Family Fabrizio Faniello is the eldest of three children born to Vincenzo and Anna Faniello. He has two younger sisters, Claudia and Miriana. Claudia is also a singer and has performed in various Maltese festivals already, including the Malta Song For Europe 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2017, representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Olivia Lewis (born 18 October 1978) is a Maltese singer. She has competed in the Malta Song For Eurovision festival, which selects the country's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest several times. Lawrence Gray (singer)
Lawrence Gray (born January 30, 1975) is a Maltese singer. Early in his career, the rock band Meer was formed and Gray was the singer and frontman. He recorded six songs with this band at Temple Studios in Malta. Gray participated in Malta Song for Europe seven times, coming twice second, with "The Right Time" in 1999 and with "Why Not" in 2003 (won the televoting). He came third with "Count on Me" in 2001 and he came twice fourth, in 2002 with "What Happened to Our Love" and in 2004 with "You’re on My Mind". Philip Vella is a Maltese musical composer. He has won the main national festivals of Malta several times such as the Malta Song for Europe, International Festival of Maltese Song (Malta Song Festival) as well as L-Għanja tal-Poplu festival. Gerard James Borg
Gerard James Borg is a Maltese songwriter, author, and concept creator. He is well known for writing multiple songs that competed in the Eurovision Song Contest. Borg has written six of the Maltese entries for the annual Eurovision Song Contest with composer Philip Vella. Their song "7th Wonder" sung by Ira Losco gave Malta 2nd place in the contest. This was the first time Malta reached 2nd place and it is the country's best result in the contest so far, alongside the 2nd place earned by Chiara with the song "Angel" in 2005. Borg and Vella also penned the song "Reaching Higher" as the official theme for the 2003 Games of the Small States of Europe which were held in Malta that year.
