The Isley Brothers
The Isley Brothers ( ) are an American musical group originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, that began as a vocal trio consisting of brothers O'Kelly Isley Jr., Rudolph Isley and Ronald Isley in the 1950s. With a career spanning over seven decades, the group has enjoyed one of the "longest, most influential, and most diverse careers in the pantheon of popular music". Together with a fourth brother, Vernon, the group performed gospel music until Vernon's death a few years after its formation. Mathilde Santing (born Mathilde Eleveld, 24 October 1958) is a Dutch singer. Santing was born in Amstelveen, Netherlands. She started receiving national attention in 1981 after she appeared in a Dutch television program called ''Sonja Op Maandag'' hosted by Sonja Barend. Over the next 25 years, she released a steady stream of albums, making her a fixture in the Dutch music scene. In 1986 she won the BV Popprijs at Noorderslag in Groningen. "Put Yourself in My Place" is a song written by the Motown team of Holland–Dozier–Holland and recorded by at least four Motown recording acts during the sixties: The Elgins in 1965, The Supremes, Chris Clark and The Isley Brothers in 1966. '' Cash Box'' described the Supremes' version as a "traditional blueser". Charts The Elgins and Supremes' versions were both issued as B-Sides in 1966, but in 1969, the Isleys' version gave the brothers a hit with it when Tamla Motown re-issued the single for the British market after they had left the company and just scored a US million-seller, "It's Your Thing" for their own T-Neck label. ''Soul on the Rocks'' is the fifth studio album by The Isley Brothers. It was released on the Tamla (Motown) label on January 24, 1967. Their second and final album with the Detroit label, the brothers soon felt disenchanted with their stay at Motown while established groups like The Temptations and The Four Tops, whose styles were more polished than the Isleys, got more promotion. George Ivy Hunter (August 28, 1940 – October 6, 2022), known as Ivy Jo Hunter, was an American R&B songwriter, record producer and singer, most associated with his work for Motown in the 1960s. Life and career Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Hunter was trained in orchestral music — primarily trumpet and keyboards. After a stint in the United States Army, Hunter began performing as a singer in the proto-soul venues around Detroit, where he became friends with songwriter Hank Cosby. Cosby introduced him to Motown's first A&R man, William "Mickey" Stevenson. Hunter played keyboards on Motown sessions before Stevenson began working with him as a songwriter. He became a principal in the Motown Records house band, and began to write some of the most significant hits of the early Motown years.
