Beecroft is a suburb in the Northern Sydney region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 22 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government areas of Hornsby Shire and City of Parramatta. Beecroft resides the upper section of Lane Cove National Park, and is one of the oldest established suburbs in New South Wales. The suburb is notably affluent, and is characterised by leafy streets and large federation homes on big blocks of land. History Beecroft was orchard country before its suburban development. The railway arrived in 1886 and Sir Henry Copeland, Minister of Lands, conducted a survey of the area to determine its suitability as a residential area. He named the suburb after the maiden name of his two wives, Hannah and Mary Beecroft, (two sisters he married in succession). Beecroft Railway Station
Beecroft railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main Northern line, serving the northern Sydney suburb of Beecroft. It is served by Sydney Trains' T9 Northern Line services. History The original Beecroft station opened on 17 September 1886 approximately adjacent to the current Beecroft tennis courts, relocating north to its present site on 7 March 1892. The disused down platform was demolished in the early 1990s. A disused dock platform for produce was located to the west of the platform. As part of the North Sydney Freight Corridor project, an electrified passing loop opened to the west of the station in June 2016. An upgrade to the station which involved lifts connecting the underpass with the platform was complete in December 2021. Beecroft Peninsula
Beecroft Peninsula is the northern headland of Jervis Bay, on Australia's east coast. On the western and southern sides of the peninsula steep sandstone cliffs meet the Tasman Sea, up to 91 metres at its southernmost point, Point Perpendicular. White sandy beaches are found along the northern, eastern and southern sides interspersed with numerous intertidal reefs. The Beecroft Peninsula encompasses an area of about 5250 hectares just south of the town of Currarong, about 200 kilometres south of Sydney. The historic Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, and its grounds, constructed in 1899 at Point Perpendicular, is the southern tip of the peninsula at the northern entrance to Jervis Bay. A large part of the Beecroft Peninsula, about 4200 hectares, is under the administration of the Australian Defence Force for use as a live-firing range called the Beecroft Weapon Range. Beecroft Art Gallery
Beecroft Art Gallery is an art gallery in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. The gallery is housed in the former municipal central library that opened in 1974 in the brutalist style as part of Southend Civic Centre. The Beecroft Art Gallery has a busy programme of changing exhibitions of art, photography and fashion. On the ground floor, the gallery presents temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary artists, focusing on the work of emerging and established local artists. Beecroft's Toys
Beecroft's Toys is an English online and mail order toy shop. Although founded in 1822 in Nottingham, it is now based in Hampshire. The company sources toys from around the world. History Josiah Corbett founded the first toy and fancy goods shop at No. 2 High Street, Nottingham. The shop then moved to a larger premises on Chandler's Lane in 1844. In 1848 Corbett also hired a partner, Charles Beecroft, and in 1848 the toy store was renamed Beecroft's. In the 20th century, Charles's son John Henry became Beecroft's owner, followed by Thomas and then his son John Hooton Beecroft. The shop moved frequently around the city during these periods, first to the Elizabethan House at 9 High Street, then to "Beecroft’s Corner" at the Exchange Building on Market Square. Adrian Beecroft
Paul Adrian Barlow Beecroft (born Yorkshire, 20 May 1947) is a British venture capitalist based in London. He was for many years Chief Investment Officer of the private equity group Apax. He was until recently Chairman of Dawn Capital. Among the companies in which Beecroft has personally invested are Mimecast and Insignis. Beecroft has donated more than £500,000 to the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party since 2006. Early life and education Adrian Beecroft was born and raised in Yorkshire.
