Becquartina Ruiliensis
''Becquartina'' is a genus of Asian cicadas in the Tribe (biology), tribe Gaeanini and the monotypic subtribe Becquartinina. This genus includes species that were previously placed in ''Gaeana'' and are sometimes known as "butterfly cicadas" due to their colourful wings. Species The Catalogue of Life lists: * ''Becquartina bifasciata'' (Chen KF, 1943) * ''Becquartina bleuzeni'' Boulard, 2005 * ''Becquartina decorata'' (Kato, 1940) - type species (as ''Gaeana decorata'' Kato) * ''Becquartina electa'' (Jacobi, 1902) * ''Becquartina ruiliensis'' Chou & Yao, 1985 * ''Becquartina versicolor'' Boulard, 2005 References External links *Images on Cicada mania

Cicada
The cicadas () are a superfamily, the Cicadoidea, of insects in the order Hemiptera (true bugs). They are in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha, along with smaller jumping bugs such as leafhoppers and froghoppers. The superfamily is divided into two families, the Tettigarctidae, with two species in Australia, and the Cicadidae, with more than 3,000 species Taxonomy (biology)#Taxonomic descriptions, described from around the world; many species remain Undescribed taxon, undescribed. Nearly all cicada species are annual cicadas with the exception of the few North American periodical cicada species, genus ''Magicicada'', which in a given region emerge en masse every 13 or 17 years. Cicadas have prominent eyes set wide apart, short antennae, and membranous front wings. They have an exceptionally loud song, produced in most species by the rapid buckling and unbuckling of drum-like tymbals. The earliest known fossil Cicadomorpha appeared in the Upper Permian period; extant species occur a ...

Tribe (biology)
In biology, a tribe is a taxonomic rank above genus, but below family and subfamily. It is sometimes subdivided into subtribes. By convention, all taxa ranked above species are capitalized, including both tribe and subtribe. In zoology, the standard ending for the name of a zoological tribe is "-ini". Examples include the tribes Caprini (goat-antelopes), Hominini (hominins), Bombini (bumblebees), and Thunnini (tunas). The tribe Hominini is divided into subtribes by some scientists; subtribe Hominina then comprises "humans". The standard ending for the name of a zoological subtribe is "-ina". In botany, the standard ending for the name of a botanical tribe is "-eae". Examples include the tribes Acalypheae and Hyacintheae. The tribe Hyacintheae is divided into subtribes, including the subtribe Massoniinae. The standard ending for the name of a botanical subtribe is "-inae". In bacteriology, the form of tribe names is as in botany, e.g., Pseudomonadeae, based on the ge ...

Gaeana
''Gaeana'' (from Amyot CJB, Audinet-Serville, JG (1843) Homoptères. Homoptera Latr. n''Histoire naturelle des Insectes. Hémiptères. Deuxième partie'': 455-483. Librairie Encyclopédique de Roret, Paris, 676 pages.) is a genus of cicadas, most members of which have colourful marking on their forewings, found across tropical and temperate Asia. Their bright wing patterns have been hypothesized as being a case of Batesian mimicry where the toxic models may be day-flying moths of the subfamilies Zygaeninae and Arctiinae. It was thought to be related to the genus '' Tosena'' but is differentiated by the exposed tympanum and lacks spines on the sides of the pronotum and now in a separate tribe. Species The ''World Auchenorrhyncha Database'' includes: # '' Gaeana atkinsoni'' Distant, 1892 # '' Gaeana cheni'' Chou, Lei, Li, Lu & Yao, 1997 # '' Gaeana consors'' Atkinson, 1884 # '' Gaeana hainanensis'' Chou & Yao, 1895 # ''Gaeana maculata'' (Drury, 1773) - type species (3 subspecies i ...

Catalogue Of Life
The Catalogue of Life (CoL) is an online database that provides an index of known species of animals, plants, fungi, and microorganisms. It was created in 2001 as a partnership between the global Species 2000 and the American Integrated Taxonomic Information System. The Catalogue is used by research scientists, citizen scientists, educators, and policy makers. The Catalogue is also used by the Biodiversity Heritage Library, the Barcode of Life Data System, '' Encyclopedia of Life'', and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility. The Catalogue currently compiles data from 165 peer-reviewed taxonomic databases that are maintained by specialist institutions around the world. the COL Checklist lists 2,067,951 of the world's 2.2m extant species known to taxonomists on the planet at present time. Structure The Catalogue of Life employs a simple data structure to provide information on synonymy, grouping within a taxonomic hierarchy, common names, distribution and ecological e ...
