''Beating a Dead Horse'' is the debut studio album by YouTube comedian Jarrod Alonge, self-released on May 26, 2015. The album features seven different fictitious bands created by Alonge to satirize the tropes and characteristics of alternative music genres such as metalcore, post-hardcore, pop punk, emo, progressive metal, hardcore punk and others. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number 1 on the ''Billboard'' Top Comedy Albums chart and number 18 on the Top Heatseekers chart. On October 30, Alonge announced a deluxe reissue of the album featuring six additional songs, which was released on December 4, 2015. Background Alonge announced plans to record the album on September 26, 2014, and launched an Indiegogo campaign with an initial goal of raising $12,000. Jarrod Alonge
Jarrod Michael Alonge (born March 25, 1993) is an American comedian, songwriter and media producer. He is best known for his parodies of the artists, sub-genres and stereotypes within alternative music. His three independent full-length comedy albums ''Beating a Dead Horse'', ''Friendville'' and '' Awkward & Depressed'' all reached number one on the ''Billboard'' Top Comedy Albums chart. Alonge is the owner and founder of Boketo Media, a digital media and production company which launched in March 2019. He is also the lead songwriter and guitarist of post-hardcore supergroup CrazyEightyEight. Personal life Alonge studied biology at Tennessee Technological University and graduated with a BS degree in 2014, having originally planned to attend medical school. Attack Attack! is an American metalcore band from Westerville, Ohio, originally formed in 2007 as Ambiance. After self-releasing their first EP in 2007, the band signed to Rise Records the same year. Johnny Franck (born June 8, 1990), also known as Bilmuri, is an American singer-songwriter, musician and producer. He is best known as the former clean vocalist and rhythm guitarist of Attack Attack!. He departed the band in 2010, and formed a new group called The March Ahead. Matthew "Mattie" Montgomery is an American musician and the former lead vocalist and frontman of Christian metal band For Today from 2007. He released six albums and one EP with the band before they broke up in 2016.
