Beat The Odds
''Beat the Odds'' is an American game show created by Bill Derman for Bing Crosby Productions. It first aired as a local production on KTLA in Los Angeles, California in 1961 with Mike Stokey as host and Stan Chambers as announcer. Dennis James succeeded Stokey as host in 1962, and the last episode aired in August 1963. The format was revived for syndication, debuting nationally on December 16, 1968 with Johnny Gilbert as host and Bill Baldwin as announcer. This version of the show lasted until September 1969. In the show, contestants competed to form words after being given the first letter, last letter, and number of overall letters. For example, if the letters revealed on the two side by side windows on the game board were G and E, and the indicator called for a word of 5 or more letters, "garage" would be an acceptable answer. Mike Stokey
Mike Stokey (September 14, 1918 – September 7, 2003) was an American game show host and producer, best known for ''Pantomime Quiz'' and its later incarnation ''Stump the Stars''. He also produced early TV specials, including ''A Christmas Carol'' in 1949, for the Jerry Fairbanks Company. Stokey also hosted '' Beat the Odds'' while it was presented at KTLA. His former wife (1943-1948) was actress Pamela Blake, with whom he had one son, Mike Stokey II, and a daughter, Barbara. His second wife (1955 - ?) was actress Spring Mitchell, born Neola Buxton in Lansing, MI with whom he had daughter, Susan Stokey and grandchildren Juliette Goglia Juliette Rose Goglia (born September 22, 1995) is an American actress, singer and musician. Press Your Luck
''Press Your Luck'' is an American television game show created by Bill Carruthers and Jan McCormack. It premiered on CBS daytime on September 19, 1983, and ended on September 26, 1986. The format is a retooling of an earlier Carruthers production, '' Second Chance'', hosted by Jim Peck and which aired on ABC in 1977. The game featured contestants collecting spins by answering trivia questions, and then later using the spins on an 18-space gameboard to win cash and prizes. The contestant who amassed the highest total in cash and prizes kept their winnings for the day and became the returning champion. Peter Tomarken was the show's original host, and Rod Roddy was the primary announcer. John Harlan and Charlie O'Donnell filled in as substitute announcers for Roddy on different occasions. A thunderbolt or lightning bolt is a symbolic representation of lightning when accompanied by a loud thunderclap. Charles Robert Henry (born January 1, 1946) is a retired American journalist, who worked in the Greater Los Angeles media market for 48 years. He worked for nearly 29 years at KNBC, where he was a co-anchor of the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts, and he worked for 19 years at KABC-TV, where he served as reporter, anchor, director, and producer (1971–1978, 1982–1993). Bill Carruthers
William H. Carruthers (September 27, 1930 – March 2, 2003) was an American television executive who gained his first fame as the director of ''The Soupy Sales Show'' at Detroit television station WXYZ-TV. He also directed the Ernie Kovacs-helmed game show, '' Take a Good Look'', for ABC from 1959 to 1961. Carruthers was born in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the Air Force for four years, and after serving, he took up a job at Detroit ABC O & O (Owned and Operated) WXYZ-TV. One day, he showed up to the station to work when he was told at the last minute, the regular director was unable to direct The Soupy Sales Show, he stepped in to direct the show.
