Bačka
Bačka ( sr-Cyrl, Бачка, ) or Bácska (), is a geographical and historical area within the Pannonian Plain bordered by the river Danube to the west and south, and by the river Tisza to the east. It is divided between Serbia and Hungary. Most of the area is located within the Vojvodina region in Serbia and Novi Sad, the capital of Vojvodina, lies on the border between Bačka and Syrmia. The smaller northern part of the geographical area is located within Bács-Kiskun County in Hungary. Name According to Serbian historians, Bačka is a typical Slavic name form, created from "Bač" (name of historical town in Bačka) and suffix "ka" (which designates "the land that belongs to Bač"). The name of " Bač" (Bács) town is of uncertain origin and its existence was recorded among Vlachs, Slavs and Hungarians in the Middle Ages. Bačka () is a village and municipality in the Trebišov District in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1214 as Bocskay family's property. It was recorded in 1214 as ''Becheka'', in 1299 as ''Bachka'', in 1323 ''Buchka'', and in 1332 as ''Bachka''). Until 1918 and from 1939 to 1944 it belonged to Hungary. Geography The village lies at an altitude of 104 metres and covers an area of 9.578 km2. It has a population of about 600 people. Ethnicity The village is 100% Hungarian. Eparchy Of Bačka
The Eparchy of Bačka () is an eparchy (diocese) of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Bačka region, Serbia. It is situated in north-western parts of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, and the seat of the eparchy is at Saint George's Cathedral in Novi Sad. History During the middle ages, old counties of Bács and Bodrog belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary, that had ambivalent attitudes towards the presence of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in its southern and eastern regions, depending on political relations with the Byzantine Empire, and medieval Serbia. By the end of the 15th century, Serbian presence in those regions was gradually enlarged by continuous migrations that were caused by Ottoman invasion of Serbian lands. The Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Bačka was established in the 16th century, under the jurisdiction of the Serbian Patriarchate of Peć.
