Battle Axe
A battle axe (also battle-axe, battle ax, or battle-ax) is an axe specifically designed for combat. Battle axes were specialized versions of utility axes. Many were suitable for use in one hand, while others were larger and were deployed two-handed. Axes designed for warfare ranged in weight from just over , and in length from just over to upwards of , as in the case of the Danish axe or the sparth axe. Cleaving weapons longer than 150 cm would arguably fall into the category of polearms. Overview Through the course of human history, commonplace objects have been pressed into service as weapons. Axes, by virtue of their ubiquity, are no exception. Besides axes designed for combat, there were many battle axes that doubled as tools. Axes could be modified into deadly projectiles as well (see the francisca for an example). Axes were often cheaper than swords and considerably more available. Battle axes generally weigh far less than modern splitting axes, especially ma ...

Metal Health
''Metal Health'' is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Quiet Riot, released on March 11, 1983. The album spawned the hit singles " Cum On Feel the Noize" and " Metal Health". It was the band's first album to receive a worldwide release, as the first two were released only in Japan. ''Metal Health'' was the first heavy metal album to reach number one on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart, replacing the Police's ''Synchronicity'' at number one in November 1983. Due to its commercial success, ''Metal Health'' is regarded by some as the catalyst that opened the door for heavy metal's immense popularity throughout the next several years. The album went on to sell more than ten million copies worldwide. Overview The band parted ways with bassist Chuck Wright early in the recording process, and replacement Gary Van Dyke was not working out. Vocalist Kevin DuBrow asked the band's former bassist Rudy Sarzo to take part in the recording of "Thunderbird", a song he had writte ...

Corded Ware Culture
The Corded Ware culture comprises a broad archaeological horizon of Europe between ca. 3000 BC – 2350 BC, thus from the late Neolithic, through the Copper Age, and ending in the early Bronze Age. Corded Ware culture encompassed a vast area, from the contact zone between the Yamnaya culture and the Corded Ware culture in south Central Europe, to the Rhine on the west and the Volga in the east, occupying parts of Northern Europe, Central Europe and Eastern Europe. The Corded Ware culture is thought to have originated from the westward migration of Yamnaya-related people from the steppe-forest zone into the territory of late Neolithic European cultures such as the Globular Amphora and Funnelbeaker cultures, and is considered to be a likely vector for the spread of many of the Indo-European languages in Europe and Asia. Nomenclature The term ''Corded Ware culture'' (german: Schnurkeramik-Kultur) was first introduced by the German archaeologist Friedrich Klopfleis ...

Battle-axe (woman)
A battle-axe is a terrible woman: aggressive, overbearing and forceful. The prime example was the militant temperance activist Carrie Nation, who actually wielded a hatchet and made it her symbol, living in ''Hatchet Hall'' and publishing a magazine called ''The Hatchet''. She became involved in the suffragette campaign for votes for women and this campaign further established the archetype. Other examples, listed by Christine Hamilton in her ''Book of British Battleaxes'', include Nancy Astor, Boudica, Ena Sharples, and Ann Widdecombe. The battleaxe is one of several stereotypes found in nursing – a tyrannical, fierce matron exemplified by Nurse Ratched or Hattie Jacques in popular medical dramas and comedies. Judith Furse played a "battle-axe woman" in the film ''Carry On Cabby''. See also * Fishwife * Jeanne Hachette * Miss Battle-Axe * Termagant * Virago * Karen (slang) Karen is a pejorative term for a white woman perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the sco ...

Deftones (album)
''Deftones'' is the fourth studio album by American alternative metal band Deftones, released on May 20, 2003, by Maverick Records. The album features a broader spectrum of musical styles than the band's previous albums, ranging from some of their heaviest compositions to moody trip hop and shoegaze influences. It was the band's last album to be produced by Terry Date until '' Ohms'' in 2020, although he did produce their unreleased album '' Eros''. Background Originally titled ''Lovers'', the album was instead given an eponymous title because singer Chino Moreno considered ''Lovers'' too obvious in relation to the context of its material (the former title song "Lovers" did appear as an A-side and B-side on the UK " Hexagram" single). Date was frustrated by the very slow pace of the band working in the studio. Musical style ''Deftones'' is an eclectic album, with songs spanning many different ideas in diverse genres. It has a much different feel than prior efforts, due in pa ...
