The Battle of Lusail (, , ) is the nickname of a football match played in the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup between the Netherlands and Argentina at the Lusail Stadium in Lusail, Qatar on 9 December 2022. Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz issued a FIFA World Cup record 18 yellow cards and one red card, setting a new record for cautions at any FIFA-administered international tournament. The 2022 FIFA World Cup was the 22nd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for national football teams organized by FIFA. Daley Blind (; born 9 March 1990) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays for La Liga club Girona. He has been deployed in a variety of defensive roles – as a left-back, centre-back, and defensive midfielder.
