Battle Of Doctor Coss
The Battle of Doctor Coss was an armed conflict in Mexico between the Gulf Cartel and the Cártel del Noreste faction of Los Zetas in the municipality of Doctor Coss, Nuevo León. The confrontation was one of the most serious in the region, disputed by both cartels due to their proximity to border municipalities of the neighboring state of Tamaulipas. Background After the split of Los Zetas from the Gulf Cartel in 2010, both the organizations started to fight each other for the control of the drug trade and the territories of the coast and for the border territories. Doctor Coss, Nuevo León
Doctor Coss is both a city and a municipality in Nuevo León, Mexico. It is located at , 182 km NE of Monterrey. Its name honors Dr. José María Coss, a liberal politician of the 19th century. In 2000 the municipality had 2246 inhabitants, while the homonym city (which serves as the municipal seat) had some 1,000. The Cártel del Noreste (, ''Northeast Cartel'') is a Mexican criminal organization and U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization that splintered from Los Zetas, following the capture of the latter's last absolute leader Omar Treviño Morales. Infighting In Los Zetas
The infighting in Los Zetas occurred between two factions, one led by Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano (alias ''El Lazca'') and the other led by Miguel Treviño Morales (alias ''Z-40'').
