"Bathe in the River" is a single released by New Zealand supergroup Mt Preservation Society featuring New Zealand soul singer Hollie Smith. It appears on the soundtrack for the 2006 New Zealand film '' No. 2''. "Bathe in the River" peaked at No. 2 on the New Zealand Singles Chart and spent 37 weeks in the top 40, becoming the country's third-best-selling single of 2006. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ) in June 2006. Hollie Smith
Hollie Smith (born 17 November 1982) is a New Zealand soul singer-songwriter based in Auckland, New Zealand. Her four solo albums '' Long Player, Humour and the Misfortune of Others, Water or Gold,'' and ''Coming In From The Dark'' have all reached number one on the RIANZ albums chart, making her one of the most successful female New Zealand artists of the 21st century. Early years Smith attended Auckland's Willow Park Primary School, Takapuna Normal Intermediate and Northcote College. In 1999, as a 16-year-old, Smith made the album ''Light From a Distant Shore'' after winning Best Female Vocalist at the National Jazz Festival of NZ. This album of Celtic music was produced by her stepfather, Steve McDonald. The APRA Music Awards are several annual and two-yearly award ceremonies run in New Zealand by Australasian Performing Right Association to recognise songwriting skills of its members. Mount Roskill
Mount Roskill () is a suburban area in the city of Auckland, New Zealand. It is named for the volcanic peak Mount Roskill. Etymology The name Mount Roskill was first recorded as Mt Rascal in 1841, on a map created by a Wesleyan missionary, referring to the volcanic peak Puketāpapa. The origin of this name is unclear, however an apocryphal story links the name to a livestock thief from the early colonial era, who allegedly used the peak as a grazing area for stolen sheep and cattle. The peak was variously called Mount Roskill or Mount Kennedy (after landowner Alexander Kennedy). The name Mount Roskill for the peak and the surrounding area likely cemented after 1867, when the local government administering Dominion Road was formed, which took the name Mt Roskill Highway Board. SJD, or Sean James Donnelly, is a musician from Auckland, New Zealand. His music is a mix of pop-rock, soul, and electronic music. The name SJD also refers to Donnelly's touring band when not performing solo. History Donnelly has cited influences including Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Gary Numan, the Human League and Soft Cell. SJD's debut album ''3'' was initially self-released on Swarf Records as 120 CD-Rs in 1999 before being picked up by Flavour Distribution. David Long (New Zealand Musician)
David Long is a musician, composer and producer. In 2020 he won best score at the APRA Silver Scrolls for the BBC drama series, The Luminaries. He composes mainly for film and television but also contemporary dance. He has worked on all of Peter Jackson’s films of the last two decades. He performs with two bands, The Labcoats (two albums) and Teeth (one album). ''Marvellous Year'' is a 2009 album by New Zealand songwriter Don McGlashan and The Seven Sisters. The album was recorded at Neil Finn's Roundhead Studios in Auckland, and featured Finn on backing vocals on two tracks, "18th Day" and "C2006P1 (Make Yourself at Home)". The title is drawn from a line in the Allen Curnow poem "The Skeleton of the Great Moa in the Canterbury Museum, Christchurch": "Not I, some child, born in a marvellous year, Will learn the trick of standing upright here."
