Basketball In Germany
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in Germany, and is played on both the amateur and professional levels. Basketball has a long history in Germany, with its popularity having developed slowly. Beginning Basketball was first introduced to Germany in 1896, by August Hermann, a physical education pioneer. Hermann's son Ernst had emigrated to Boston and introduced the game of basketball to his father. Originally, Hermann was searching for a sport for girls to play as an alternative to soccer. August held the first game in Germany in the city of Braunschweig where he was a well-known advocate and instructor of physical education and sports. Thereafter, he invented a number of sports and wrote rule books. He wrote the rule book for "Korbball" (basketball) that same year. The Damen-Basketball-Bundesligen GmbH (DBBL) is a company founded in June 2001, which manages the first and the two second federal leagues of women's basketball in Germany. The shareholders of the GmbH are AG 1. DBBL, AG 2. DBBL and DBB. DBBL is based in Frankfurt am Main. Philipp Reuner has been the managing director since August 2020. His predecessors were Claus-Arwed Lauprecht, Achim Barbknecht, Birgit Kunel and Jürgen Kofner. The DBBL is responsible for marketing, public relations and the organization of game operations in the top leagues and the cup competition of German women's basketball. Hermann Niebuhr (basketball)
Hermann Niebuhr is a South African artist who lives in De Rust. He utilizes oils on canvas in a classical painterly style to document urban decay as well as rural landscapes. Niebuhr was born in Johannesburg in 1972. He studied at Rhodes University, Grahamstown and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (with distinction in History of Art) in 1993. He spent six years in the arid region of South Africa known as the Karoo. Working from the small town of De Rust, Niebuhr isolated himself and developed his technique. Upon his return to his hometown of Johannesburg in 2002, he began to confront the challenges of living and making art in one of Africa's largest and politically most complex cities. August Hermann
Friedrich August Wilhelm Theodor Hermann (14 September 1835 – 20 February 1906) was a German physical education instructor. He, along with Konrad Koch, introduced the game of association football to Germany from England in 1874. He is known as the Braunschweig "Father of Physical Education." Hermann also wrote and published poetry in the Low German language. Early career Hermann grew up in Lehre, near Braunschweig, and studied to become a teacher. While studying in Wolfenbüttel at the Great School he learned physical education and became an avid gymnast. Teaching and sports He became a school teacher in Dresden and completed additional training as a gym instructor.
