Barry Award (comedy Prize)
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Award (formerly the Barry Award and the Stella Award) is an annual prize presented to the most outstanding comedy act at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. History It has been awarded since 1998, when it was introduced as the Stella Award. It was renamed in 2000 in honour of Barry Humphries, and again renamed in 2019 following comments about transgender people by Humphries. It is generally regarded as the most prestigious award of the festival, and the winner receives a trophy and cash prize. Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is the largest stand-alone comedy festival and the largest international comedy festival in the world. First held in 1987, it takes place annually in Melbourne over four weeks, typically starting in March and running through to April. The Melbourne Town Hall has served as the festival hub, but performances are held in many venues throughout the city. MICF also produces three flagship development programs: Raw Comedy, Australia's biggest open mic competition; Class Clowns, a national comedy competition for high school students; and Deadly Funny, an Indigenous comedy competition that celebrates the unique humour of Indigenous Australians. Richard Travis Hall (born June 10, 1954) is an American comedian, writer, director, actor, and musician, first coming to prominence as a sketch comedian in the 1980s. Rhys Nicholson (born 22 April 1990) is an Australian comedian and actor known for being a judge on '' Drag Race Down Under'' from 2021 onwards. Career In 2011, Nicholson featured in the ABC documentary ''GayCrashers'', alongside Joel Creasey, in which the duo travel to the small town of Colac and perform a stand-up show. Geraldine Hickey (born 7 July 1979) is an Australian comedian, known for her work as co-host of the '' Breakfasters'' program on Melbourne community radio station 3RRR. At the 2021 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Hickey's "''What A Surprise''" show was awarded the most outstanding show. James William Acaster (; born 9 January 1985) is an English comedian, presenter, podcaster and actor.
