Barrie
Barrie is a city in Central Ontario, Canada, about north of Toronto. The city is within Simcoe County and located along the shores of Kempenfelt Bay. Although it is physically in the county, Barrie is politically independent. The city is part of the extended urban area in southern Ontario known as the Golden Horseshoe, Greater Golden Horseshoe. As of the 2021 Census of Population, 2021 census, the city's population was 147,829, while the Census metropolitan areas, census metropolitan area had a population of 212,856 residents. The area was first settled during the War of 1812 as a supply depot for British forces, and Barrie was named after Sir Robert Barrie. The city has grown significantly in recent decades due to the emergence of the technology industry. It is connected to the Greater Golden Horseshoe by Ontario Highway 400 and GO Transit. Barrie is a Scottish company specialising in the production of Cashmere wool, cashmere collections. Founded in the Scottish Borders, Borders in 1903, Barrie was acquired by Chanel in 2012. A "Barrie" brand was launched in 2014. History In 1903, Walter Barrie and Robert Kersel opened a factory specialised in the production of high-quality stockings. Located in Hawick, Barrie thus manufactured two-tone model designed by Coco Chanel, Gabrielle Chanel in the 1920s. In 1962, the company took the name of Barrie Knitwear Ltd. In 1975, it moved to a new factory in Burnfoot, Hawick, Burnfoot specially designed for Cashmere wool, cashmere. Barrie started working for names in fashion such as Chanel, an activity that continues to this day. In October 2012, Barrie Knitwear Ltd was acquired by Chanel. Barrie was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2015. It consisted of the City of Barrie in the County of Simcoe. It was created in 2003 when its predecessor, Barrie—Simcoe—Bradford, was redistributed. Barrie—Simcoe—Bradford consisted of the City of Barrie and the towns of Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil. Barrie Line
Barrie is one of the seven commuter lines of the GO Transit system in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada. It extends from Union Station in Toronto in a generally northward direction to Barrie, and includes ten stations along its route. From 1982 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 2007, it was known as the Bradford line, named after its former terminus at Bradford GO Station until the opening of Barrie South GO Station. The Barrie line runs on the former Northern Railway of Canada route. This is the oldest operating railway line in Ontario, with passenger service beginning in 1853. HMCS Barrie
HMCS ''Barrie'' was a that served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. The ship was constructed by Collingwood Shipyards Ltd. at Collingwood, Ontario, laid down on 4 April 1940. The ship was launched on 23 November 1940 and commissioned on 12 May 1941. The corvette was named for the city of Barrie, Ontario. ''Barrie'' served primarily in the Battle of the Atlantic as a convoy escort. Following the war, ''Barrie'' was sold to Argentinian commercial interests which converted the corvette to a cargo ship and renamed the vessel ''Gasestado''. In 1957, ''Gasestado'' was acquired by the Argentinian Navy and converted to a survey ship and renamed ARA ''Capitán Cánepa''. The Argentinian Navy discarded the ship in 1972.
