Barmer (Lok Sabha Constituency)
Barmer Lok Sabha constituency () is one of the 25 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in Rajasthan state in western India. It is the second largest parliamentary constituency covering an area of 71,601 km2, over twice the size of Belgium. Jaisalmer district , Jaisalmer and Barmer, the third and fifth largest districts in India, both fall under this Lok Sabha seat. Former Defense Minister Jaswant Singh contested from this seat as a rebel BJP candidate in 2014. His son Manvendra Singh has also contested a few times from here. Manvendra Singh
Manvendra Singh Jasol is an Indian politician. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was the member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India from 2004-2009 representing the Barmer-Jaisalmer constituency of Rajasthan. Early life Colonel Manvendra Singh was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His father is Jaswant Singh, a former Finance Minister and Defence Minister of India, and mother is Sheetal Kanwar. Singh is married to Chitra Singh daughter of Bhainsrorgarh. They have two children. He is an alumnus of Mayo College and has an MA, having studied at Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. Barmer District
Barmer District is a district in Rajasthan state of India. It is located in the western part of Rajasthan state forming a part of the Thar Desert. Barmer was the third largest district by area in Rajasthan and fifth largest district in India, occupying an area of 28,387 km2 before creation of new districts. Being in the western part of the state, it includes a part of the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer is to the north of this district while Jalore is in its south. Balotra form its eastern border and it shares a border with Pakistan in the west. Partially being a desert, this district has a large variation in temperature. The temperature in summer can rise up to 51 °C and falls near to 0 °C in winter. Luni is the longest river in Barmer district.
