Barabbas
Barabbas (; ) was, according to the New Testament, a prisoner who was chosen over Jesus by the crowd in Jerusalem to be pardoned and released by Roman governor Pontius Pilate at the Passover feast. Biblical account According to all four canonical gospels there was a prevailing Passover custom in Jerusalem that allowed Pilate, the ' or governor of Judea, to commute (reduce) one prisoner's death sentence by popular acclaim. In one such instance, the "crowd" (''ochlos''), "the Jews" and "the multitude" in some sources, are offered the choice to have either Barabbas or Jesus released from Roman custody. According to the Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and the account in John, the crowd chooses Barabbas to be released and Jesus of Nazareth to be crucified. Pilate reluctantly yields to the insistence of the crowd. One passage, found in the Gospel of Matthew, has the crowd saying (of Jesus), "Let his blood be upon us and upon our children." Miklós Barabás
Miklós Barabás (10 February 1810, in Markersdorf, Covasna County, Romania – 12 February 1898, in Budapest) was a Hungarian painter. He is mostly known for his portrait paintings, including a famous portrait of a young Franz Liszt, done in 1847 and an 1853 portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Biography Miklos Barabás was educated at the Protestant school of Nagyenyed. He painted from an early age, and in 1829 he was a pupil of Johann Ender in Vienna for a while. Back in Kolozsvár in 1830 he learned lithography from Gábor Barra (1799-1837). In 1834-1835 he traveled to Italy, where he learned watercolor painting from the Scottsman William Leighton Leitch who was six years his senior; they became friends and toured and painted in the Lago Maggiore region in 1834, and Leitch was a great influence on Barabás's future work. Tom Barabas
Tom Barabas was an American-Hungarian pianist/keyboardist. He studied classical music at the Caracas Conservatory in Venezuela before developing a taste for rock, jazz, and New Age. He died in San Diego, California in the spring of 2020 at the age of 85 or 86. Early life Barabas was born in 1934 in Hungary, where he spent his childhood. He began playing music at the age of four in Budapest. By age 12, he had attracted the interest and praise of his piano instructors and he made his public debut at the Liszt Conservatory of Music. In 1949 his family emigrated to Venezuela where he studied classical piano and composition at the Venezuela Conservatory of Music in Caracas, earning his master's degree in 1957. In 1966, Barabas emigrated to the US, living and composing in San Diego, California. Sack–Barabas Syndrome
Sack–Barabas syndrome is an older name for the medical condition vascular Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (vEDS). It affects the body's blood vessels and organs, making them prone to rupture. Signs and symptoms Patients with Sack–Barabas syndrome have thin, fragile skin, especially in the chest and abdomen, that bruises easily; hands and feet may have an aged appearance. Skin is soft but not overly stretchy. Facial features are often distinctive, including protruding eyes, a thin nose and lips, sunken cheeks, and a small chin. Buratino (Russian: Буратино) is the main character of Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy's 1936 book ''The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino'', which is based on the 1883 Italian novel ''The Adventures of Pinocchio'' by Carlo Collodi. Buratino originated as a character in the commedia dell'arte. The name ''Buratino'' derives from the Italian ''burattino'', which means "wooden puppet" or "doll". Barabás
Barabás is a village in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary. Jews settled in Barabás in the middle of the 19th century. The synagogue of the Orthodox community was built in 1910. There is a Jewish cemetery on the site. In 1944, after the German occupation, all the Jews of the village were deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp; only two of them survived after the war. Hooverphonic is a Belgian band that formed in October 1995. Though originally categorized as a trip hop group, they quickly expanded their sound to the point where they could no longer be described as a singular genre, but rather encompass alternative, electronica, electropop, rock, and a mixture of others.
