Bangladesh E-Government Computer Incident Response Team
The Bangladesh e-Government Computer Incident Response Team (BGD e-Gov CIRT; ) is the state-run agency of the government of Bangladesh responsible for maintaining cybersecurity in the country. Works under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, it is the national computer emergency response team (CERT) with prim focus on receiving and reviewing, and responding to cybersecurity incidents in the country. BGD e-Gov CIRT conduct research in the field of cybersecurity and issues advisory on security-oriented vulnerabilities in coordination with various government and non-government organizations, including critical infrastructures, financial organizations, law enforcement agencies, academia and civil society. It works within its framework for providing assistance for the improvement of national defense system of Bangladesh. The OIC Computer Emergency Response Team (; ), commonly known as OIC-CERT, is a computer emergency response team and one of the 17 affiliated organs of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Focused on global cybersecurity in the 27 member and non-member states, it is considered the world's third-largest computer emergency response team coordinated by the 27 countries. The OIC-CERT is primarily focused on providing emergency support in cyber resilience with global collaboration with its associated members and information security organizations. Bangladesh Bank Robbery
The Bangladesh Bank robbery, also known colloquially as the Bangladesh Bank cyber heist, was a theft that took place in February 2016. Thirty-five fraudulent instructions were issued by security hackers via the SWIFT network to illegally transfer close to US$1 billion from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York account belonging to Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh. Five of the thirty-five fraudulent instructions were successful in transferring US$101 million, with US$81 million traced to the Philippines and US$20 million to Sri Lanka. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York blocked the remaining thirty transactions, amounting to US$850 million, due to suspicions raised by a misspelled instruction.
