Band-Maid is a Japanese rock band formed in 2013, consisting of singer Saiki Atsumi, guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, bassist Misa, and drummer Akane Hirose. The band combines a rock sound with a maid image modeled on Japanese maid cafés. They are currently signed to Pony Canyon , also known by the shorthand form , is a Japanese company, established on October 1, 1966, which distributes music, films, home video, and video games. Band-Maid is a Japanese Rock music, rock band formed in 2013, comprising singer Saiki Atsumi, guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, bassist Misa, and drummer Akane Hirose. The band combines hard rock music with costumes modeled on Japanese maid cafés. They are currently signed to Pony Canyon. Their most recent studio album, ''Epic Narratives'', was released in September 2024. History 2013–2014: Early years and ''Maid in Japan'' From 2012 to early 2013, Miku Kobato was singing in an Japanese idol, idol group, Lil Cumin, with Yuki Yano and Risa Aoyagi. The group released three singles, Imishin Spicin, Hatsukoi Ribbon, and Super Trooper. Dissatisfied, she pitched her new management an idea: A band, wearing "cute" (''kawaii'') costumes modeled on those she had worn working in maid cafés, playing "cool" (''kakkoii'') music. World Domination (Band-Maid Album)
''World Domination'' is the fifth studio album by Japanese all-female rock band Band-Maid. It was released on February 14, 2018, and was supported with the World Domination Tour 2018. Music videos were made for the single "Daydreaming", the lead track "Domination" and the last track "Dice". The album debuted at number nine on the Japanese Oricon Albums Chart, selling 8,140 copies in its first week. The international version of the album from JPU Records includes English lyric translations, Romaji transliterations and bonus track "Honey". The song "Carry On Living" was used on the anime ''Quiz Tokiko-san''. Composition and lyrics "I Can't Live Without You." and "Dice" were both considered to be released as the lead song, but ultimately "Domination" was chosen instead. "Bubble" is the sixth single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on January 16, 2019, by Crown Stones. The song was used as the theme song for the Japanese drama show ''Perfect Crime''. It was released on the same day as " Glory". Composition and lyrics The lyrics for "Bubble" were inspired by the manga ''Perfect Crime''. Rhythm guitarist/vocalist Miku Kobato wrote the lyrics to be "good enough so that those who read the original would appreciate it". They were originally going to use one of their unreleased songs for the show, but lead guitarist Kanami Tōno "realized that the demo I just happened to be working on at the time was a better fit for the drama." "Glory" is the fifth single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on January 16, 2019, by Crown Stones. The song was used as the second ending theme for the second season of the anime ''Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS''. It was released on the same day as "Bubble". Composition and lyrics The lyrics for "Glory" were inspired by the anime ''Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS'' and describes a world where AIs and human coexist. Rhythm guitarist/vocalist Miku Kobato stated that the English lyrics in the song were made intentionally easy to sing, as they found that many kids watched the show. The lyrics for "Hide-and-Seek" revolve around a darker version of hide-and-seek, where the outcome is life or death. Start Over (Band-Maid Song)
"Start Over" is the fourth single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on July 25, 2018, by Crown Stones. Composition and lyrics "Start Over" was written in a more pop oriented style, as opposed to their usual hard rock. Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, plays the piano in the song. It was lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi's idea to include piano, as well as to not have a guitar solo. The lyrics were written to be easy to sing in karaoke, as many of their fans expressed difficulty in singing their songs. There were originally more English lyrics, but Atsumi told rhythm guitarist/vocalist Miku Kobato, to cut down on them. For the lyrics, Kobato had in mind a theme of contradictory love and that she didn't want to make the lyrics too dark or too cute. Daydreaming/Choose Me
"Daydreaming/Choose Me" is the third single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on July 19, 2017, by Crown Stones. Band-Maid made a cameo appearance in the 2021 Netflix film ''Kate'', playing "Choose Me". "Choose Me" was used in the third episode '' Better Goff Dead'' of the 2022 TV series '' Peacemaker''. Composition and lyrics Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno composed "Daydreaming" after lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi requested a ballad. She was told to incorporate elements of tropical house and EDM and make it more like Band-Maid. Tōno wrote it on piano. It took about a month to arrange the music. YOLO (Band-Maid Song)
"YOLO" is the second single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid. Released in Japan on November 16, 2016, by Crown Stones, it is the band's first single on a major record label. The title track is featured as the theme song of the video game ''Valiant Knights''. Composition In 2019, as Band-Maiko, they released an alternate version of "YOLO" (retitled "YOLOSIOSU"), with traditional Japanese instruments and lyrics rewritten in the Kyoto dialect. Background and release The single was released in two versions: a standard edition, and a limited edition, which contains the CD and a music sheet for the song "YOLO", enclosed in a sleeve. ''Unleash'' is the second extended play by Japanese rock band Band-Maid. The EP was released by Pony Canyon on September 21, 2022, and contains eight tracks, including the lead single "Sense". It debuted at number nine on the Oricon Albums Chart, selling 7,590 in its first week. Background and recording The songs on ''Unleash'' were taken from compositions that the band had worked on over the previous two years. Composition and lyrics Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno stated that she tries not to listen to rock bands, so that she won't be inspired by them. ''Band-Maiko'' is the first extended play by Japanese rock group Band-Maid (as Band-Maiko). It was released on April 3, 2019, by Revolver Records. In the EP, their ''maiko'' costumes and the music with Kyoto dialect lyrics and '' wagakki'' became a very popular topic of discussion. It debuted at number 15 on the Oricon Albums Chart, selling 4,440 copies in its first week. Background and release "Secret Maiko Lips" was previously released on April Fools' Day 2018.
