Mars Ill is an emcee/ DJ hip-hop duo from Atlanta, Georgia. The duo consists of Gregory Owens ( Manchild) and Nathan Corrona ( DJ Dust). They are also part of the hip-hop collective and supergroup Deepspace5. Coming together in 1998, Mars Ill has released several albums and EPs through independent record labels and two albums on Gotee Records. Their success in the underground hip-hop movement in the early 2000s led to their performing at Scribble Jam in 2003 and 2004 and, ultimately, their signing to Gotee. Blueprint (rapper)
Albert Andrew Shepard, (born July 11, 1974), better known by his stage name Blueprint, is an American rapper and record producer from Columbus, Ohio. He is a founder of Weightless Recordings. Blueprint is one half of the duo Soul Position along with producer RJD2. He is also a member of the rap group Greenhouse (formerly known as Greenhouse Effect), which currently consists of himself and Illogic. The duo also run a podcast "Super Duty Tough Work" which airs on YouTube, SoundCloud, and other platforms. Life and career Blueprint first gained underground attention as a member of the crew Greenhouse Effect. Alternative Hip Hop
Alternative hip-hop (also known as alternative rap and experimental hip-hop) is a subgenre of hip-hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising "hip-hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk." Alternative hip-hop developed in the late 1980s and experienced a degree of mainstream recognition during the early to mid-1990s. Gotee Records is a record label of Christian hip-hop, based in Franklin, Tennessee in the United States. History The label was founded in 1994 by TobyMac, Todd Collins and Joey Elwood. The first album produced is Out of Eden's '' Lovin' the Day''. The label was a part of EMI Christian Music Group. However, they bought back EMI's minority share to become fully independent again as of March 31, 2008. Toby McKeehan is currently the president of the company and as of 2009, the label is currently distributed by Warner Bros. Records. McKeehan got the name "Gotee" from the song "Socially Acceptable" on dc Talk's album '' Free at Last''. A member of the band GRITS was doing the background vocals, and he was saying, "Let it go, T, let it go." ("T" refers to Toby). Underground Hip Hop
Underground hip hop (also known as underground rap or simply underground) traditionally refers to hip hop music that is outside the general mainstream canon or counter-cultural in nature, usually with a heavy emphasis on emotion, lyricism, and/or social consciousness. Being outside of the mainstream, it is common for artists or songs that are considered "underground" to have little commercial success, though this is not a requirement, as many have gained massive followings, especially in the streaming era. John Kenneth Dust (born John Kenneth Dunkin: November 30, 1972), better known by the stage name Pigeon John, is an American rapper based in Los Angeles, California. He is a former member of L.A. Justin Ingleton, better known by his stage name Bigg Jus, is an American rapper and record producer. He was a member of Company Flow along with El-P and Mr. Len. He is also one half of the duo Nephlim Modulation Systems with Orko Eloheim. History After the breakup of Company Flow in 2001, Bigg Jus formed the now defunct Sub Verse Music and began to pursue his solo career. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he continued his musical career with his self-produced EP ''Plantation Rhymes''.
