"Back to the Hotel" is a song by American hip hop duo N2Deep. It is the lead single from their debut studio album of the same name (1992) and their most successful song, peaking at number 14 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. "Back to the Hotel" is famously one of the first songs to sample the saxophone riff from "Darkest Light" by Lafayette Afro Rock Band. For this reason, it has often been compared to " Rump Shaker" by Wreckx-n-Effect, which was released later in the year and also contains this sample. N2Deep is an American Chicano rap duo formed in Vallejo, California in 1989. Consisting of Jay Tee, James "Jay Tee" Trujillo and Timothy "TL" Lyon, they are best known for the 1992 hit single "Back to the Hotel (song), Back to the Hotel", the title track of their Back to the Hotel, debut album. Early third member John "Johnny Z" Zunino officially left the group as a performing member in its first year to focus exclusively on production and related behind-the-scenes responsibilities. Wreckx-n-Effect (originally Wrecks-n-Effect) is an American hip-hop/new jack swing group from Harlem, New York City. They are known for their 1992 single " Rump Shaker", which peaked at number two on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. History In 1988, childhood friends Aqil Davidson, Markell Riley and Brandon "B-Doggs" Mitchell formed Wrecks-n-Effect. Their production company wanted to trial adding a fourth member to the group, therefore Keith "K.C." Hanns joined the trio while their demo was being made. In 1988, with Atlantic Records, the group debuted their self-titled EP with Hanns as the fourth member. Following little recognition for their debut EP, Davidson, Riley and Mitchell reconvened their initial vision as a trio later that year. Soon after, in 1989, the group switched to Motown Records.
