''Back to Earth'' is the eleventh studio album released by the British singer/songwriter Cat Stevens. It is the only album he recorded using the name Cat Stevens after his conversion to Islam until the release in September 2017 of ''The Laughing Apple'', his fifteenth studio album (credited to "Yusuf / Cat Stevens"). It was also the last album of contemporary Western music that he recorded until ''An Other Cup'', 28 years later. Background On 8 December 1977 Stevens was awarded the "Sun Peace Award" by the Symphony for the United Nations in New York City. On 23 December 1977 Stevens entered the London Central Mosque, Regent's Park Mosque in London and formally embraced Islam. On 4 July 1978, Steven Georgiou changed his name to Yusuf Islam. ''An Other Cup'' is the twelfth studio album by Yusuf (formerly known as Cat Stevens), released on 10 November 2006 in Germany, 13 November in the UK and the US and worldwide on 14 November. It is Yusuf's first Western pop album since ''Back to Earth'', which was released in 1978 under the name Cat Stevens. ''An Other Cup'' is Cat Stevens's first new studio album under the name Yusuf Islam since returning to Western pop music. A steel guitar ( haw, kīkākila) is any guitar played while moving a steel bar or similar hard object against plucked strings. The bar itself is called a "steel" and is the source of the name "steel guitar". The instrument differs from a conventional guitar in that it is played without using frets; conceptually, it is somewhat akin to playing a guitar with one finger (the bar). Known for its portamento capabilities, gliding smoothly over every pitch between notes, the instrument can produce a sinuous crying sound and deep vibrato emulating the human singing voice. Overview Stevens' second album released during the year 1970, ''Tea for the Tillerman'' includes many of his best-known songs such as "Where Do the Children Play?", "Hard Headed Woman", " Wild World", "Sad Lisa", "Into White", and "Father and Son". Gerald Conway (born 11 September 1947) is an English folk and rock drummer/percussionist, best known for having performed with the backing band for Cat Stevens in the 1970s, Jethro Tull during the 1980s, and a member of Fairport Convention from 1998 to 2022, alongside various side projects. Conway has done a considerable amount of work as a session musician. Conway is married to vocalist Jacqui McShee, who is the singer of Pentangle, a band Conway is also a member of.
