Back Into The Future
''Back into the Future'' is the seventh album by the Welsh rock band Man. Released in September 1973, it was the first Man album recorded following the departure of Clive John. ''Back into the Future'' was originally issued as a double LP. LP 1 was recorded at Rockfield Studios, Chipping Norton Recording Studios, and Olympic Studios in London between May and July 1973, initially by the remaining four band members, but they felt an additional guitarist was needed, so Wild Turkey guitarist Alan "Tweke" Lewis joined for the final studio recordings. Lewis also played on LP 2, which was recorded live by Pye Mobile at The Roundhouse in London on 24 June 1973. The album spent three weeks in the UK album chart, peaking at No 23, the highest album chart position of any Man album. Phil Ryan (21 October 1946 – 30 April 2016) was a Welsh keyboardist and composer known for his work with Man and Pete Brown. Early career Born in Port Talbot, Ryan played trombone in the National Youth Orchestra, but his rock career started in 1964 when he formed the Port Talbot/Neath band The Smokestacks, with John Hockin, Gary Pickford-Hopkins, Peter Randal and Gerald Trolley. Career Eyes of Blue In 1966 Ryan and Hopkins – together with the drummer John Weathers – joined The Eyes of Blue, who then turned professional. They won the 1966 Melody Maker Beat Contest, winning a one-year record contract, but had to record songs chosen for them, rather than their own material, and neither of their singles, "Heart Trouble" / "Up And Down" and "Supermarket Full of Cans" / "Don't Ask Me To Mend Your Broken Heart", sold well. 'Gwalia Male Choir'' (''Welsh: Côr Meibion Gwalia'') is a male voice choir based in London. Founded in 1967, it is one of London's oldest male choirs. Gwalia is an archaic Welsh name for Wales. It meets and rehearses every week in the London Welsh Centre. This building is a cultural and community center, officially opened in 1930 by Margaret Lloyd George, wife of former prime minister David Lloyd George. The honorary President of the choir is singer, songwriter, author and broadcaster Cerys Matthews. Sosban Fach ( Welsh for "little saucepan") is a traditional Welsh folk song. It is one of the best-known and most often sung songs in the Welsh language. The song is based on a verse written by Mynyddog in 1873 as part of his song ''Rheolau yr Aelwyd'' ("Rules of the home") — see below. Talog Williams, an accountant from Dowlais, created the song we have today by altering Mynyddog's verse and adding four new verses. The song catalogues the troubles of a harassed housewife. The song is associated with the rugby union club Llanelli RFC and, more recently, the Scarlets regional rugby side. The association derives from Llanelli's tin plating industry, which used to tin-plate steel saucepans and other kitchen utensils as a cheap supply to the British public. Terry Williams (drummer)
Terrence Williams (born 11 January 1948) is a retired Welsh rock drummer. During the 1970s and early 1980s Williams was drummer with Dave Edmunds / Rockpile and Man. Rockpile split in 1981 and Williams joined Dire Straits from 1982 until 1988. Williams was born in Swansea. During the 1960s, he played in a number of Welsh bands, including Commancheros, the Smokeless Zone, Dream and Plum Crazy, before joining Dave Edmunds' band Love Sculpture. In 1970 he joined the Welsh rock group Man, which included two former Dream and Smokeless Zone members, Deke Leonard and Martin Ace. Between 1981 and 1982, Williams was part of the Neverland Express band, backing Meat Loaf. In June 1982 Williams joined Dire Straits as the replacement for drummer Pick Withers, shortly after the release of their fourth studio album '' Love Over Gold''.
