BSG Aktivist „Karl Marx“ Zwickau
Ballsportverein Sachsen Zwickau e. V. is a German women's handball team from Zwickau, Saxony. It plays in the Bundesliga. It was founded as a continuation of the DDR club ''BSG Aktivist Karl Marx Zwickau'' after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The team was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2021 by winning the 2nd Bundesliga. In their first season they survived by finishing 13th out of 14th and thus qualifying for the relegation play-off, which they won against Frisch Auf Göppingen. In the 2023–24 season they achieved their best result ever, when they finished 11th. Dietmar Schmidt
Dietmar Schmidt (born 29 April 1952 in Zwickau) is a handball coach who is currently the assistant coach at the women's team BSV Sachsen Zwickau. He is also a former East Germany, East German Team handball, handball player who won gold medals in the 1980 Summer Olympics as the captain (sports), captain. Playing Career Schmidt started his sports career with swimming and fistball. In 1967 he won the DDR Youth championship in first ball. He started playing handball in school and then joined BSG Aktivist „Karl Marx“ Zwickau and BSG Wismut Aue. In the DDR-Oberliga Handball, DDR-Oberliga he played for ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt, where he won the DDR championship twice in 1974 and 1975. In 1975 he also won the EHF Champions League. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team.
