David Blatt
David Michael Blatt ( he, דוד מיכאל בלאט; born May 22, 1959), is an Israeli-American professional basketball executive. He is also a former coach and player. Blatt played point guard at Princeton University from 1977 to 1981 and played in the Maccabiah Games for the U.S. national team that won a gold medal in 1981. He then played professional basketball in Israel for nine of the next twelve years, before an injury ended his playing career, and he began coaching full-time. He is one of the most successful Israeli-American coaches in European basketball history. As a coach, Blatt has been the Israeli Super League Coach of the Year four times (1996, 2002, 2011, and 2014), the Russian Super League Coach of the Year (2005), and the EuroLeague Coach of the Year (2014). Nicolae Blatt (24 June 1890 – 15 April 1965) was a Romanian ophthalmologist, surgeon, and medical researcher. He was the founder of the first Romanian journal of ophthalmology, "Revista de Oftalmologie" and he published numerous research papers and monographs in foreign ophthalmology journals. and foreign publications'. Melanie Ruth Blatt (born 25 March 1975) is an English singer. She rose to fame in 1997 as a member of the girl group All Saints. The group have gained five number one singles, two multi-platinum albums, two BRIT Awards and have sold over 10 million records worldwide. Thomas "Toivi" Blatt (born Tomasz Blatt; April 15, 1927 – October 31, 2015) was a Holocaust survivor, writer of mémoires, and public speaker, who at the age of 16 escaped from the Sobibór extermination camp during the uprising staged by the Jewish prisoners in October 1943. The escape was attempted by about 300 inmates, many of whom were recaptured and killed by the German search squads. Following World War II Blatt lived in the Communist Poland until the Polish October. In 1957, he emigrated to Israel, and in 1958 settled in the United States. Genevieve Blatt (June 19, 1913 – July 4, 1996) was an American politician and attorney from Pennsylvania. She became the first woman to hold statewide elected office in Pennsylvania when she was elected State Secretary of Internal Affairs in 1954, and she ran unsuccessfully as the Democratic Party nominee in the 1964 United States Senate election in Pennsylvania. Josephine Schauer Blatt (1869 – September 1, 1923), best known by her stage name Minerva, was an American strongwoman. She married strongman Charles Blatt in 1888. Early life Blatt was born in New York, the ninth child of German immigrants Joseph and Louisa Schauer. Her father immigrated in 1858 and her mother two years later.
