BBC Wales Headquarters Building
BBC Cymru Wales New Broadcasting House, previously known as the BBC Cymru Wales headquarters building, is the headquarters of BBC Cymru Wales in Central Square, Cardiff. It operates many of its broadcasting services (radio and TV) from there using IP-based studios. It also serves as a base for S4C. The £120 million building replaced the BBC Cymru Wales Broadcasting House in Llandaff, when 1,000 production and support staff began moving into the new facility in October 2019. The building is officially located at 3 Central Square, but has also been referred to as BBC New Broadcasting House. Operation The building's first live transmission was made on 14 July 2020 by continuity announcer Tim Cooper on BBC Two Wales. Continuity announcer-director Leanne Thomas introduced the Six O'Clock News on BBC One Wales for the first time on 15 July. Central Square, Cardiff
Central Square () is a large public space in Cardiff, Wales, adjacent to Cardiff Central railway station and included Cardiff Central bus station between 1954 and 2015. It was redeveloped and extended in the late 2010s and early 2020s. BREEAM
The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), first published by the Building Research Establishment in 1990, is touted as the world's longest established method of identifying the sustainability of buildings. Around 550,000 buildings have been "BREEAM-certified". Additionally, two million homes have registered for certification globally. BREEAM also has a tool which focuses on neighbourhood development. Purpose BREEAM is an assessment undertaken by independent licensed assessors using scientifically-based sustainability metrics and indices which cover a range of environmental issues. Llanishen
Llanishen (, ''llan'' church + ''Isien'' Saint Isan) is a district and community in the north of Cardiff, Wales. Its population as of the 2011 census was 17,417. Owen Money
Lynn Mittell MBE (born 16 May 1947), better known by the stage name Owen Money, is a British musician, actor, comedian, and radio presenter from Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. Early life Mittell was born in Merthyr Tydfil at the Royal Oak pub, where his mother, Tydfil, and father, James Lyons, were publicans. The family would later run the Bee Hive pub in Merthyr. Mittell would later follow his parents into the publican business, owning the Silver Slipper pub on Pant Road in Merthyr. Mittell later owned The LA (formerly the Hafod Inn) in Swansea, in response to why the name was changed, Mittell quipped that LA stood for "Lower 'Afod". BBC Radio Wales is a Wales, Welsh national radio station owned and operated by BBC Cymru Wales, a division of the BBC. It began broadcasting on 13 November 1978, replacing the Welsh opt-out service of BBC Radio 4. As of August 2022, the station's managing editor is Carolyn Hitt, who is also editor of BBC Wales Sport. BBC Radio Cymru 2
BBC Radio Cymru 2 is a Welsh language radio station owned and operated by BBC Cymru Wales, a division of the BBC. It broadcasts across Wales on DAB, digital TV and BBC Sounds. Radio Cymru 2 broadcasts music-led programming for up to 60 hours a week, as an opt-out from the main BBC Radio Cymru service, which provides shared programming at certain hours of the day. BBC One Wales
BBC One Wales is a Welsh free-to-air television channel owned and operated by BBC Cymru Wales. It is the Welsh variation of the UK-wide BBC One network and is broadcast from Central Square in Cardiff. History and operation The first television signals in Wales came on 15 August 1952 from the newly constructed Wenvoe transmitter. The transmitter itself broadcast the national BBC Television service. Programming either for Wales or in the Welsh language was initially restricted. ''BBC Wales Today'' is the BBC's national television news programme for Wales, broadcast on BBC One Wales from the headquarters of BBC Cymru Wales in Central Square, Cardiff. Lucy Owen
Lucy Owen (born 18 June 1971 as Lucy Jane Cohen) is a Welsh television news reader. Early life Born 18 June 1971, in Llandaff, Owen attended Howell's School in Llandaff, Cardiff, and graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London, in English. She is of Jewish heritage. Career Owen began her broadcasting career at BBC Radio Wales as a researcher, later progressing to a reporting and co-presenting role for a features programme.
