BAL Coach Of The Year
The Basketball Africa Coach of the Year Award is an annual Basketball Africa League (BAL) award given to the best coach of a given season. The award was first handed out in the 2022 BAL season, 2022 season to José Neto (basketball), José Neto. The winner of the award is based on two criteria: developed a mutually respectful relationship with league, game officials, media, opponents and fans; and had the best results based on the resources at their disposal. The winner of the awards is decided by voting by all head coaches and two assistant coaches per team, which cannot vote on a coach on their same team. Winners References

Basketball
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. A field goal is worth two points, unless made from behind the three-point line, when it is worth three. Basketball Africa League
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa's premier men's basketball league. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, similar to the format of the UEFA Champions League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with sponsorship from Nike, Air Jordan and Pepsi. Its inaugural season started with the qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in May 2021. The competition replaces FIBA's Africa Basketball League as the continent's top-tier league. BAL president, Amadou Gallo Fall, announced at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game Africa Luncheon in Chicago, that the season will tip off on 13 March. 2022 BAL Season
The 2022 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 2, was the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 2 March 2022 and ended with the Finals on 28 May 2022. The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row. Tunisian club US Monastir won the finals to win its first-ever BAL title, after defeating Angolan club Petro de Luanda in the 2022 BAL Finals. As winners, Monastir qualified for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Format On 9 December 2021, the BAL announced a new format for the season, with an expansion of the number of total games to 38. The twelve qualified teams are divided over two conference of six teams, in which all teams play the other teams once. Pabi Guèye
Mamadou "Pabi" Guèye (born 29 September 1978) is a Senegalese professional basketball coach and former player who is the current head coach of AS Douanes and as an assistant for Senegal men's national team. He had a 20-year long playing career, of which the majority was in Senegal as well as three seasons in Morocco for Ittihad Tanger. After playing six seasons for AS Douanes, Gueye became the club's head coach in 2013. He guided them to six NM1 championships. Gueye led the Douanes to the final of the 2023 BAL season, and was named Coach of the Year. Early life Born in Guinguinéo, his father was a railway worker. Guèye picked up basketball at Ballabey in Thiès and left school in third grade in 1995. AS Douanes (basketball)
Association Sportive des Douanes, commonly known as AS Douanes, is a Senegalese basketball club from Dakar. Part of the Senegalese customs organisation, the team plays in the national top division Nationale 1 and is among the country's most decorated teams, having won 10 national titles. AS Douanes played and will play in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in the 2021 and 2023 seasons. History AS Douanes was established in 1980, as the basketball section of the Senegalese customs organisation. In 1998, the team won its first national championship. In October 2019, Douane won the Senegalese championship after defeating DUC in the final. 2023 BAL Season
The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, is the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and will end on 27 May 2023, with the playoffs and finals being played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosts the finals for a third season in a row. The regular season is played in Dakar, Senegal (Sahara Conference) and Cairo, Egypt (Nile Conference) for a second year in a row. The qualification games for the season, the Road to BAL, began on 11 October 2022. The winners of the 2023 BAL season will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Singapore. José Neto (basketball)
José Alves dos Santos Neto (born 16 March 1971) is a Brazilian professional basketball coach. He is the current head coach of Petro de Luanda in the Angolan Basketball League, as well as for the Brazil women's national basketball team. Coaching career Pro clubs Neto has been the head coach of the Brazilian League club Flamengo. As the head coach of Flamengo, he won the 2014 FIBA Americas League championship, and the 2014 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. In September 2020, Neto signed as head coach of Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League and Basketball Africa League. He won the 2021 Angolan League title in his first season, and guided Petro to the third place in the 2022 BAL season. Petro De Luanda (basketball)
Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, commonly known as Petro de Luanda, is an Angolan basketball club based in Luanda. It competes at the local level, at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the Angola National Basketball Championship. Additionally, the club plays at the continental level, at the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established in 1976, the team is part of a multi-sports club which includes a football and handball team as well. Petro has been one of the most successful teams in Angola, having won the second most Angolan championships with 15, trailing only Primeiro de Agosto.
