Azerbaijan First League
The Azerbaijan First League () is the second highest professional division in Azerbaijani professional football. The league is run by AFFA. The winner promotes to Premier Division. History Due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, all Azerbaijan clubs of the former Soviet Premier Division and Soviet First Division conformed a single Azerbaijan Premier League, which meant that the new second tier of Azerbaijan football would remain regionalized. For the first two seasons three regional groups conformed the second tier, until in 1994 the single table in use today began to be used. Competition format The First League currently consists of 10 teams. All teams play each other three times. Azerbaijan Premier League
The Azerbaijan Premier League (), also known as Misli Premyer Liqası for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Azerbaijan and the highest level of the Azerbaijani football league system. It is contested by twelve clubs. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 33 matches each (playing each team in the league three times, twice at home and once away). The Premier League champion secures the right to play in UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runner up and the 3rd-place winner secure the right to play in UEFA Europa Conference League starting in second qualifying round. Since 1992, a total of eight clubs have been crowned champions of the Azerbaijani football system. MOIK Baku
MOIK Baku is an Azerbaijani football club, based in Baku. MOIK was originally built around the concept of military sports club such as CSKA Moscow, CSKA Sofia. History The club was established under the name OIK (; ) in 1961 as sport society of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and was funded by USSR Ministry of Defense until 1990 and Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense since 1993. It has never participated in any Soviet football league, entered Soviet Cup just once and was eliminated in the preliminary round, but has won Azerbaijan USSR League 4 times and Azerbaijan USSR Cup 8 times. Mingachevir
Mingachevir ( ) is the fourth largest city in Azerbaijan with a population of about 106,000. It is often called the "city of lights" because of its hydroelectric power station on the Kura (South Caucasus river), Kura River, which divides the city down the middle. The current city was founded in 1948, partly by German Prisoner of war, prisoners of war captured during World War II. Mingechevir is also home to Mingachevir Polytechnic Institute. Mingəçevir FK is an Azerbaijani football club based in Mingachevir. One of the oldest and most popular clubs in Azerbaijan, it currently plays in the Azerbaijan First Division. Qabala
Qabala () is a city and the administrative centre of the Qabala District of Azerbaijan. The municipality consists of the city of Gabala and the village of Küsnət, Qabala, Küsnat. Qaradağ Lökbatan FK () was an Azerbaijani football (soccer), football club based in Lökbatan. History The club was established in 2009 under the name of ''Neftchi-ISM'' as Neftchi Baku PFC, Neftchi Baku's reserve team, and played in Azerbaijan First Division. However, reserve teams cannot play in the same division as their senior team and therefore the club was ineligible for promotion to the Azerbaijan Premier League. The club became independent of Neftchi in 2011 and was renamed Qaradağ Lökbatan FK, which would allow them to participate in Premier League if they secured promotion from the First Division. On 10 April 2012, the club finished top in the First Division, which would normally result in promotion to 2012–13 Azerbaijan Premier League, Azerbaijan Premier League. Yevlakh
Yevlakh (, ) is a city in Azerbaijan, 265 km west of the capital of Baku. It is surrounded by but administratively separate from the Yevlakh District. Etymology The settlement is mentioned by the 13th century Armenian historian Stephen Orbelian in the form of ''Evaylakh'' ().
