Aviator (British Band)
Aviator is an English rock band formed in 1978. Aviator was founded in 1978 by Jack Lancaster (saxophone, flute, synthesizer), Mick Rogers (guitar & lead vocals), Clive Bunker (drums) and John G. Perry (bass & vocals). The brand released their debut album ''Aviator (1979)'' which contained nine tracks. They went on tour in Europe as a supporting act for Steve Hillage before performing on various festivals and venues throughout Germany. Jack Lancaster left the band after the tour of 1979. The three members that remained recorded the band's second and final album - ''Turbulence (1980).'' The band reunited with all four members present for Lancaster's solo album '' Skinningrove Bay in 1980.'' Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog) is a broad genre of rock music that primarily developed in the United Kingdom through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early-to-mid-1970s. Jack Lancaster
Jack Lancaster was a British composer, record producer and musician. In the late 1960s, Lancaster co-founded the British rock group Blodwyn Pig with Jethro Tull (band), Jethro Tull guitarist Mick Abrahams and in the late 1970s he was a member of the British progressive rock group Aviator (British band), Aviator with former Jethro Tull (band), Jethro Tull drummer Clive Bunker, former Manfred Mann's Earth Band guitarist Mick Rogers, and former Caravan (band), Caravan and Quantum Jump bassist John G. Perry that released two albums on the EMI America Records label (Lancaster appeared only on the band's debut). Mick Rogers (musician)
} Mick Rogers (born Michael Oldroyd; 20 September 1946) is an English rock guitarist, singer and songwriter, chiefly known for his time with Manfred Mann's Earth Band from 1971 to 1975 and again since 1984. Rogers was the original lead vocalist of the band until his departure; after his return, he became a backing and occasional lead vocalist. Excluding the group's Manfred Mann (musician), titular leader, Rogers is the longest serving member of MMEB. Early life and career His father was a drummer and his uncle a string bass player. Clive Bunker
Clive William Bunker (born 30 December 1946) is a British drummer. He is best known as the original drummer of the rock band Jethro Tull, playing in the band from 1967 until 1971. Never a self-professed technical drummer, Bunker engaged with the essence of blues and rock 'n' roll, influenced by Ginger Baker and Mitch Mitchell. He was also inspired by Buddy Rich and The Hollies' Bobby Elliott. Career Early career Bunker was born in Luton, Bedfordshire, and played in his first band The Warriors in the 1960s. With Mick Abrahams he later formed the band known as McGregor's Engine. Stephen Simpson Hillage (born 2 August 1951) is an English musician, best known as a guitarist. He is associated with the Canterbury scene and has worked in experimental domains since the late 1960s. Lyricon
The Lyricon is an electronic wind instrument, the first wind controller to be constructed. Invented by Bill Bernardi (and co-engineered by Roger Noble and with the late Lyricon performer Chuck GreenbergIngham (1998) p.184) of Shadowfax, filed for patent on October 5, 1971, by Computone Inc., patented under #US3767833 October 23, 1973 and then manufactured by Computone Inc. in Massachusetts in the early 1970s. The first Lyricon was completed in 1974 with Tom Scott being the first customer for the instrument.
