Avenger (pulp-magazine Character)
The Avenger is a fictional character whose original adventures appeared between September 1939 and September 1942 in the pulp magazine ''The Avenger'', published by Street & Smith, which ran 24 issues. Five additional short stories were published in ''Clues Detective'' magazine (1942–1943), and a sixth Novella, novelette in ''The Shadow'' magazine in 1943. Decades later, newly written pastiches were commissioned and published by Time Warner, Warner Brothers' Paperback Library from 1973 to 1974. The Avenger was a pulp hero who combined elements of Doc Savage and The The Shadow, Shadow. The authorship of the pulp series was credited by Street & Smith to Kenneth Robeson, the same byline that appeared on the Doc Savage stories. The Crimson Avenger is the name of three separate superheroes and supervillains in the DC Comics Universe. The character debuted in 1938 and is notable as the first masked hero in DC Comics. ''The Avenger'' () is a 1960 West German crime film directed by Karl Anton and starring Heinz Drache, Ingrid van Bergen and Ina Duscha. ''The Way of the Tiger'' is a series of adventure gamebooks by Mark Smith and Jamie Thomson, originally published by Knight Books (an imprint of Hodder & Stoughton) from 1985. They are set on the fantasy world of Orb. The reader takes the part of a young monk/ninja, named Avenger, initially on a quest to avenge his foster father's murder and recover stolen scrolls. Later books presented other challenges for Avenger to overcome, most notably taking over and ruling a city. The world of Orb was originally created by Mark Smith for a ''Dungeons & Dragons'' game he ran while a pupil at Brighton College in the mid-1970s. Orb was also used as the setting for the 1984 Fighting Fantasy gamebook '' Talisman of Death'', and one of the settings in the 1985 Falcon gamebook ''Lost in Time'', both by Smith and Thomson. Sentinels of Justice is a fictional organization of superheroes. The comic was published by Americomics (a.k.a. AC Comics) in 1983 during a very brief time that AC was able to license the Charlton Comics superheroes before the rights were purchased outright by DC Comics. The team consisted of Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, the Question and Nightshade. This line-up's first appearance was in ''Americomics Special'' #1 (August 1983).
