Augher
Augher (from meaning "edge/border") is a small village in south County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It lies just 6 miles to the border with County Monaghan and is 16 miles south of Dungannon. It is situated in the historic barony of Clogher and the civil parish of Clogher. The 2001 Census recorded a population of 399. The town gives its name to the local Gaelic Football Club. Historical By the time of the Nine Years' War Augher was important enough to be used as a garrison town by the forces of Lord Mountjoy, Elizabeth I's Lord Deputy of Ireland, to disrupt the army of the Earl of Tyrone. In 1613, after the war and as part of the Plantation of Ulster an area of 315 acres (127.5 ha) around Augher was given to Sir Thomas Ridgway who had been the Treasurer at War for Ireland. The land grant was strict about what the Undertaker i.e. Ridgway, could do with the land in terms of who had to be settled there and what provisions had to be given to the settlers. Henry Vaughan Brooke
Colonel Henry Vaughan Brooke (1743 – 27 November 1807) was an Irish politician. Background Brooke originated from a family with roots in County Fermanagh as well as County Donegal and was the son of Basil Brooke.Lowry-Corry (1887), pp. 303–304 His mother was Jane, daughter of Henry Wrey. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin until 1761 and when his father died seven years later, he inherited the latter's estates. Sir William Richardson, 1st Baronet
Sir William Richardson, 1st Baronet (after 1749 – 29 October 1830) was an Irish politician. He was the son and heir of St George Richardson, MP for Augher (1755–1760) and Elizabeth Bunbury, daughter of Benjamin Bunbury of Kilfeacle, County Tipperary. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Augher from 1783 to 1790 and Ballyshannon, Ireland from 1798 to 1801. He was created a baronet on 30 August 1787 and served as High Sheriff of Tyrone in 1789. Robert Rochfort (9 December 1652 – 10 October 1727) was a leading Irish lawyer, politician and judge of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. He held office as Attorney General for Ireland, Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer, and Speaker of the Irish House of Commons. Early life Rochfort was born 9 December 1652, the second son of Lt.-Col. James (nick-named "Prime-Iron") Rochfort (d. 1652), a Cromwellian soldier, and his wife Thomasina ( Pigott) Hull, daughter of Sir Robert Pigott of Dysart Manor, County Laois, and widow of Argentine Hull of Leamcon, County Cork. The 1761 Irish general election was the first general election to the Irish House of Commons in over thirty years, with the previous general election having taken place in 1727. Despite few constituencies hosting electoral contests, the election was significant due to it taking place in a time of rising political awareness within the Irish public, with many being drawn to the cause of patriotism. Background Unlike England, which had passed the Triennial Acts in 1694, thereby requiring elections every 3 years (and following 1716 every 7 years), Ireland had passed no similar pieces of legislation. As a result, the only limit on a term of parliament was the life of the monarch.
