Attorney General Of Malaysia
The Attorney General of Malaysia ( also referred to as the AG; Jawi: ) is the principal legal adviser of Malaysia. The Attorney General is also the highest ranking public prosecutor in the country and is also known as the Public Prosecutor, or simply ''PP''. The powers with regard to prosecution is contained in Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution. For instance, exercisable at his discretion, the Attorney General may institute, conduct or discontinue any proceedings for an offence, other than proceedings before a Syariah court, a native court or a court-martial. Unlike a number of other Commonwealth common law jurisdictions, the head of the prosecuting authority in Malaysia is simply known as the Public Prosecutor, or PP, instead of the Director of Public Prosecutions, or DPP. Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar
Mohd Dusuki bin Mokhtar (born 1967) is a Malaysian lawyer who serves as the 11th Attorney General of Malaysia since 12 November 2024. Early life Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar was born in Machang, Kelantan. Education Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar holds Bachelor of Laws from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Master of Laws from University of Wollongong respectively. Mohtar Abdullah
Mohtar bin Abdullah (7 May 1944 – 7 July 2003) was a Malaysian lawyer. He was the Attorney General of Malaysia from 1994 to 2000 and also served as a judge in the High Court and Federal Court. Mohtar's term as Attorney General was marred by the controversy surrounding the 1998 sodomy trial of former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Biography Mohtar studied at the University of Singapore. He entered the judicial and legal service in 1971. He served as a judge on the High Court from 1990 to 1994 before being appointed Attorney General. After his tenure as Attorney General, he was appointed to the Federal Court in January 2002. Less than three months into his term, he suffered a stroke. After surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain, Mohtar fell into coma for a nearly year. Hamzah Abu Samah
Hamzah bin Abu Samah (5 January 1924 – 4 September 2012) was a Malaysian politician, lawyer and sports administrator who served as the president of Asian Football Confederation from 9 December 1978 to 1 August 1994. In 2006, he was conferred the FIFA Order of Merit for his contribution towards Asian football. He also one of the fourth Malaysian to join the exclusive club of AFC Diamond of Asia Award with Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak, Sultan Ahmad Shah and Sultan Abdullah. Abdul Kadir Yusuf
Abdul Kadir Yusof (; 10 September 1917 – 18 April 1992) was a Malaysian politician. A lawyer by profession, Abdul Kadir held the posts of Attorney General and Solicitor-General at various points during his lifetime. He was also the Minister of Law. Together with his wife Fatimah Hashim, former Welfare Minister, Abdul Kadir represented one half of the first couple to be on the Malaysian cabinet. Life Abdul Kadir was born in Parit Sakai, Muar, Johor in 1917. Cecil Majella Sheridan CMG (9 December 1911 – 22 May 2000) was a British lawyer who served as the last British Attorney-General of Malaya and was responsible for much of the legal work involved in the formation of Malaysia. Early life and education Sheridan was born on 9 December 1911, the son of J.P. Sheridan of Liverpool. He was educated at Ampleforth College. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1934, and was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1952. Thomas Vernor Alexander Brodie (9 October 1907 – 13 November 1975) was a British lawyer who served as Attorney-General of the Federation of Malaya from 1955 to 1959. Early life an education Brodie was born on 9 October 1907 in Richmond, London the son of Norman Brodie of the Indian Civil Service. Sir Michael Joseph Patrick Hogan, (15 March 1908 – 27 September 1986) was an Irish lawyer and judge in the British Empire. He served as Chief Justice of Hong Kong for 14 years.
