Atia (gens)
The ''gens Atia'', sometimes written ''Attia'', was a minor plebeian family at Ancient Rome. The first of this gens to achieve prominence was Lucius Atius, a military tribune in 178 BC.William Smith, "Atia Gens", in ''Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology'', vol. I, p. 405. Several of the Atii served in the Civil War between Caesar and Pompeius. The '' gens Attia'' of imperial times may be descended from this family, although its members lived nearly a century after the more notable Atii, and are not known to have been related. Origin None of the Atii are mentioned in history prior to the second century BC, and none of them ever held the consulship, but owing to its connection with Augustus, Vergil pretended this gens to be descended from Atys, a friend of Ascanius, the son of Aeneas, or one of the kings of Alba Longa supposedly descended from Ascanius.Suetonius, "The Life of Augustus", 4. Atia (mother Of Augustus)
Atia (also Atia Balba) ( 85 – 43 BC) was the niece of Julius Caesar (through his sister Julia Minor), and mother of Gaius Octavius, who became the Emperor Augustus. Through her daughter Octavia, she was also the great-grandmother of Germanicus and his brother, Emperor Claudius. Biography Early life Atia was the daughter of Julia Minor and her husband praetor Marcus Atius Balbus. Atia had at least one younger sister, and possibly an older one. Due to this, she is sometimes called ''Atia Secunda'' or ''Atia Balba Secunda''. She may also have had a brother. First marriage Her first marriage was with Gaius Octavius, the praetor in 61 BC and then Macedonian governor. Her family lived close to Velitrae, ancestral home of the Octavii. They had two children: Octavia Minor, born 66 BC, and Gaius Octavius (Augustus), born in 63 BC. In his '' Dialogus de oratoribus'', Tacitus notes her to be exceptionally religious and moral, and one of the most admired matrons in the history ... Atia, Bulgaria
Atia () is a village in Sozopol Municipality, Burgas Province, south-eastern Bulgaria. As of 2013 it has 825 inhabitants. It hosts Bulgaria's largest naval base. The village is located near Cape Atia, thus its name. It is situated at the northern foothills of Medni Rid Ridge, which is the north-eastern extreme of the Bosna Ridge in the Strandzha Mountains. Environmental problems Until 2001 copper mines functioned in the vicinity of the village. Between 1954 and 1977 all the by-products and waste from the mining operations were dumped in the shallow waters near the Black Sea coast. Access To Information Act
The ''Access to Information Act'' (R.S., 1985, c. A-1) () or ''Information Act'' is a Canadian Act providing the right of access to information under the control of a federal government institution. As of 2020, the Act allowed "people who pay $5 to request an array of federal files". Paragraph 2. (1) of the ''Act'' ("Purpose") declares that government information should be available to the public, but with necessary exceptions to the right of access that should be limited and specific, and that decisions on the disclosure of government information should be reviewed independently of government. Later paragraphs assign responsibility for this review to an Information Commissioner, who reports directly to parliament rather than the government in power. However, the ''Act'' provides the commissioner the power only to recommend rather than compel the release of requested information that the commissioner judges to be not subject to any exception specified in the ''Act''. Attea
Attea () was a coastal town of ancient Mysia or of Aeolis. If we follow the order of Strabo's enumeration, it lay between Heracleia and Atarneus. It has been conjectured that it is the same place which is named Attalia in the Peutinger Table. Pliny the Elder mentions an Attalia in Mysia, but he places it in the interior; and he also mentions the Attalenses as belonging to the conventus of Pergamum. It seems, then, there is some confusion in the authorities about this Attalia; and the Lydian Attalia of Stephanus of Byzantium and this Attalia of Pliny may be the same place. Also, attempts to equate the town with Attaea Attaea or Attaia () was a city of Classical Anatolia in the region of the Caicus River or Lycus (river of Lydia), Lycus River.
