''Athyrium distentifolium'' commonly known as alpine lady-fern is a fern found in widely in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a common upland variety above 600 metres in the Highlands of Scotland, with more than 10% of the UK population being found in the Cairngorm mountains, especially on scree slopes in Glen Feshie, and on Ben Avon, Ben MacDui and Beinn a' Bhùird. Regarded as nationally scarce, it is a snow-tolerant species. The stunted form var. A fern (Polypodiopsida or Polypodiophyta ) is a member of a group of vascular plants (plants with xylem and phloem) that reproduce via spores and have neither seeds nor flowers. Athyrium Flexile
''Athyrium flexile'', commonly known as Newman's lady-fern or the flexile lady fern, is a taxon of which is fern endemic to Scotland, it has been regarded as a species but it is considered to be an ecotype of the Alpine lady fern. This fern is pale to yellow green in colour and has elliptic, double pinnate leaves which are deciduous. This ecotype grows more quickly and matures faster than the Alpine lady fern in substrates which have low levels of nutrients and is outcompeted by the Alpine lady fern in other situations. It is an upland variety typically found above on screes made up of siliceous rocks such as quartzite and granite in the Highlands where it is found at only four sites. Endemism is the state of a species being found in a single defined geographic location, such as an island, state, nation, country or other defined zone; organisms that are indigenous to a place are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere. Beinn A' Bhùird
Beinn a' Bhùird is a Munro in the Cairngorm mountain range of Scotland. In ''Watson'' (1975) the author suggests the mountain should be named ''Beinn Bòrd - table hill'', saying that local Scottish Gaelic speakers pronounced the mountain ''Paing Bòrd'', with some of the older local folk still using ''Painna Bòrd''. The closest 'village' to Beinn a' Bhùird is Braemar, Aberdeenshire and the most common approach by car is through this village. Ben MacDui
Ben Macdui ( gd, Beinn MacDuibh, meaning "MacDuff's mountain") is the second-highest mountain in Scotland and all of the British Isles, after Ben Nevis, and the highest of the Cairngorm Mountains. The summit is above sea level and it is classed as a Munro. Ben Macdui sits on the southwestern edge of the Cairngorm plateau, overlooking the Lairig Ghru pass to the west, and Loch Etchachan to the east. Ben Avon
Ben Avon ( gd, Beinn Athfhinn, 'mountain of the Avon') is a mountain in the Cairngorms of Scotland. It is a sprawling mountain with a broad summit plateau dotted with granite tors. One of these marks the summit, called ''Leabaidh an Daimh Bhuidhe'' ("bed of the yellow stag") or ''Stob Easaidh Mòr'', which stands at a height of . It is classified as both a Munro and a Marilyn. From the broad summit plateau ridges lead in almost every direction, allowing access from Glen Avon to the north, from Beinn a' Bhùird to the west and from Gleann an t-Slugain in the south. To the west of the summit lies the massive corrie, Slochd Mòr, with its rocky cliffs, and the approaches from the south and west take you close to the corrie rim.
