Athletics In Pakistan
Athletics in Pakistan is overseen by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) organizes athletic tournaments in Pakistan. Pakistani athletes compete in various athletic events. Some Pakistani athletes have excelled in various events in the distant past including Abdul Khaliq, Ghulam Raziq, Mubarak Shah, John Permal, Muhammad Talib, Ahmed Sajjad Cheema, Abid Hussain, Arshad Saleem, Ali Kamani and Nawaz, Mohammad Alam, and Muhammad Younis are some of the athletes who got prominence at either Asian or International levels, or both, winning gold medals for Pakistan. In the early decades, Pakistanis held many Asian records including the Asian 100 m and 200 m record held by Abdul Khaliq. The Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) is the apex body of Athletics (sport), athletics in Pakistan. It was formed in 1951. Major General (R) Muhammad Akram Sahi is the current President. History In 1951, the Federation acquired the rights to organize athletics in Pakistan from the IAAF. Race Walking
Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Race judges carefully assess that this is maintained throughout the race. Typically held on either roads or running tracks, common distances range from up to 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). There are two racewalking distances contested at the Summer Olympics: the 20 kilometres race walk (men and women) and 50 kilometres race walk (men only). Both are held as road events. The biennial World Athletics Championships also featured these two events, in addition to a 50 km walk for women, until 2019. Khwaja Muhammad Aslam
Khawaja Muhammad Aslam (8 February 1922 – 23 July 2019) was a Pakistani athlete who represented Pakistan in the 1954 Asian Games in the 200m. He won the silver medal with the time of 22sec. The gold medal winner was also a Pakistani athlete, Muhammad Sharif Butt, with the time of 21.9sec. Aslam also competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki in the 100m and 200m events, as well as the men's 4 × 100 m relay. He finished fifth in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×110 yards relay (with Abdul Aziz, Abdul Khaliq, and Muhammad Sharif Butt). In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 100 yards as well as in the 220 yards Aslam was eliminated in the heats. Aslam died on 23 July 2019 at the age of 97 in Pakistan. Muhammad Ramzan Ali
Muhammad Ramzan Ali (born 13 December 1932) is a Pakistani former athlete who competed in track and field events. Ali represented Pakistan in both the long and triple jumps at the 1956 Summer Olympics. In 1958, he won Asian Games bronze medals in the 4 x 100 metres relay and long jump, as well as a bronze medal in the long jump at the British Commonwealth Games in Cardiff. At the 1960 Summer Olympics, Ali again represented Pakistan in the long jump and was also a member of their 4x 100 metres relay team. His personal best in the long jump, 7.43m, was set in 1960. Jalal Khan (born 13 August 1927, date of death unknown) was a Pakistani javelin thrower. Khan represented Pakistan at the 1952 Summer Olympics and 1956 Summer Olympics. During the 1950s he was a two-time Asian Games silver medallist and won both a silver and bronze medal in the British Commonwealth Games. His personal best, 73.16m, was set in 1959. Athletics At The Commonwealth Games
Athletics is one of several sports contested at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games competition. It has been a Commonwealth Games sport since the inaugural edition of the event's precursor, the 1930 British Empire Games. It is a core sport and must be included in the sporting programme of each edition of the Games. Editions Events Men's events No new events have been added to the men's athletics programme since the 1998 addition of the 20 km and 50 km racewalks.
