Athletics At The 2019 Pan American Games
Sport of athletics, Athletics competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held between July 27 and August 11, 2019 at the Athletics Stadium in the Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna cluster, with the marathon and walks being held at Miraflores Central Park, Kennedy Park. A total of 48 events were contested, equally divided among men and women. The women's 50 km walk was added for this edition of the Games, marking the first time that men and women competed in an equal number of events. Qualification Up to a total of 740 athletes were qualified to compete. Each nation may enter a maximum of two athletes in each individual event, and one team per relay event. Each event has a maximum number of competitors and a minimum performance standard. Peru as host nation, is granted an automatic athlete slot per event, in the event no one qualifies for that respective event. Miraflores Central Park
Miraflores Central Park (), also known as Miraflores Park (), is a public park located in Miraflores, Lima, Peru. It is divided into two parks: John F. Kennedy Park () and 7 June Park (). The former gives the entire park complex its popular name, Kennedy Park. Two streets—Lima and Virgen Milagrosa—pass through the park. The park is known for its large presence of street cats, and is commonly used for events such as book fairs and marathons, as well as '' Fiestas Patrias'' celebrations such as the ''Corso Wong'', and political and social protests. William Paulson (born 17 November 1994) is a middle-distance runner who competes for Canada. Paulson has dual Canadian-British citizenship, thanks to his French-Canadian mother and British father. Paulson was born in the UK and grew up in Tetbury, Gloucestershire and attended Leighterton Primary School and Pate's Grammar School, before going to Princeton for an undergraduate degree in biology.
