At Home (TV Series)
''At Home'' is an American television series that aired on New York City station WCBW from 1944 to 1945. The series was a variety show, one of the first such series produced for American television. Ernie Waxman was the show's pianist. The series ended when the American Federation of Musicians said that Waxman could no longer play for both TV and radio programs. The program was broadcast on Fridays from 8 to 10 p.m. Tony Miner was the producer. Format The series presented variety acts. One episode, for example, featured comedian Bernie West, dancer Ronnie Cunningham, singer Vera Pandowsky, guitarist Youl Bryner, and was hosted by Paquita Anderson. A different episode featured dancer Sandra Barrett and juggler Senor Francisco. Other content of episodes included presenting "entertainment and points of interest" for people visiting New York City, a fashion show, a discussion of sports, analysis of news, a "Will You Remember?" segment, and showing of films related to wartime. Worthington Miner
Worthington Miner (November 13, 1900 – December 11, 1982) was an American film producer, screenwriter, actor and director. He was married to actress Frances Fuller, with whom he had three children, including producer/director Peter Miner. He was the paternal grandfather of actress Rachel Miner. Miner's direction of plays began with ''Up Pops the Devil'' in 1929. He went on to direct ''Reunion in Vienna,'' ''Both Your Houses,'' ''On Your Toes,'' ''Jane Eyre'', and ''For Love or Money''. In 1939, after more than 10 years in the theater, Mr. Miner publicly criticized it as "highly undemocratic". Bernie West
Bernie West (May 30, 1918 – July 29, 2010) was an American television writer and actor best known for his work in situation comedies such as ''All in the Family'', its spinoff ''The Jeffersons'', and '' Three's Company''. Biography Born on May 30, 1918, in the Bronx, New York City as Bernard Wessler, to Russian-Jewish immigrants; he earned his undergraduate degree from Baruch College, earning a Bachelor of Business Science in advertising. West worked as a nightclub comedian, and performed on tour with the U.S.O. in the Pacific Theatre after being rejected from the military due to medical issues. Live Television
Live television is a television production broadcast in real-time, as events happen, in the present. In a secondary meaning, it may refer to streaming television where all viewers watch the same stream simultaneously, rather than watching video on demand. Shows broadcast live include newscasts, morning shows, awards shows, sports programs, reality programs and, occasionally, episodes of scripted television series.
