Association Of Franciscan Colleges And Universities
The Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities (AFCU) is an association of over 20 Franciscan colleges and universities and is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The group is varied, ranging from large and established universities, to junior colleges, to newer institutions. Most of the schools are located in what is now called the American Rust Belt, reflecting the activities of the Franciscan movement in the United States. Surprisingly, few Franciscan institutions are located in the Southwest, an area first settled by Franciscan missionaries. Marian University (Indiana)
Marian University is a private Roman Catholic university in Indianapolis, Indiana. Founded in 1851 by the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, the college moved to Indianapolis in 1937. Marian was referred to as Marian College from 1936 until 2009, when it was renamed Marian University. In 2013, the university opened the first medical school in over 100 years in Indiana, which was the first osteopathic medical school in the state and the second operational medical school in Indiana at the time. Siena College is an American private Franciscan college in Loudonville, New York. Siena was founded by the Order of Friars Minor in 1937. Quincy University
Quincy University (formerly known as St. Francis Solanus College, and today abbreviated as QU) is a private Franciscan university in Quincy, Illinois. It was founded in 1860 and enrolls about 1,100 students. History A small group of Franciscan friars left Germany in 1858 to serve the German-speaking population in what was then the frontier state of Illinois.
