Assisted Living Federation Of America
The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) is a trade association of senior living providers that manage assisted living communities across the United States. ALFA was formed in 1990. It is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and has 30 affiliates and four chapters representing 34 states. ALFA is the largest national association exclusively dedicated to professionally managed, resident-centered senior living communities and the seniors and families they serve. An assisted living residence or assisted living facility (ALF) is a housing facility for people with disabilities or for adults who cannot or who choose not to live independently. The term is popular in the United States, but the setting is similar to a retirement home, in the sense that facilities provide a group living environment and typically cater to an older adult population. There is also Caribbean assisted living, which offers a similar service in a resort-like environment (somewhat like assisted vacationing). The expansion of assisted living has been the shift from "care as service" to "care as business" in the broader health care system predicted in 1982. Alexandria is an independent city in the northern region of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. It lies on the western bank of the Potomac River approximately south of downtown Washington, D.C. In 2020, the population was 159,467. The city's estimated population has grown by 1% annually since 2010 on average.
