Asher Weisberg
Piglet was an American instrumental math rock band, formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2003 by former members of Seyarse. Background The band broke up after releasing their debut EP, ''Lava Land'', on the label Team AV, in 2005. In April 2020, Lava Land was ranked #4 in a readers poll published by Fecking Bahamas of the 50 greatest math rock albums of all time. Due to popular demand, the band ran a Kick Starter campaign in 2013 to release ''Lava Land'' on vinyl. The LP is limited to a pressing of 1,000 copies, (900 on purple vinyl and a limited run of 100 on clear vinyl). The campaign was such a success, Piglet were able to also package and release a CDEP called "Songs" which contains live multi-track recordings of all of the band's post-"Lava Land" material. Recorded live at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago, "Songs", is limited to 500 copies with artwork and hand printed packaging by Kyle Maj. Math rock is a style of Alternative rock, alternative and indie rock with roots in bands such as King Crimson and Rush (band), Rush. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), counterpoint, odd time signatures, and extended chords. Instrumental rock is rock music that emphasizes instrumental performance and features very little or no singing. Examples of instrumental music in rock can be found in practically every subgenre of the style. Instrumental rock was most popular from the mid-1950s to mid-1960s, with artists such as Bill Doggett Combo, The Fireballs, The Shadows, The Ventures, Johnny and the Hurricanes and The Spotnicks. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. Post Rock
Post-rock is a subgenre of experimental rock that emphasizes texture, atmosphere, and non-traditional song structures over conventional rock techniques. Post-rock artists often combine rock instrumentation and rock stylings with electronics and digital production as a means of enabling the exploration of textures, timbres and different styles. Vocals, when present, are often used as an instrumental layer, with many bands opting for entirely instrumental compositions. The genre began in indie and underground music scenes, but deviated. The term ''post-rock'' was coined by music journalist Simon Reynolds, being popularized in a review of Bark Psychosis' 1994 album '' Hex'', and he later expanded the concept as music "using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes". Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Consonance
In music, consonance and dissonance are categorizations of simultaneous or successive sounds. Within the Western tradition, some listeners associate consonance with sweetness, pleasantness, and acceptability, and dissonance with harshness, unpleasantness, or unacceptability, although there is broad acknowledgement that this depends also on familiarity and musical expertise. The terms form a structural dichotomy in which they define each other by mutual exclusion: a consonance is what is not dissonant, and a dissonance is what is not consonant.
