Filippo Baldinucci's ''Notizie de' Professori del Disegno, Da Cimabue in qua, Secolo V. dal 1610. al 1670. Distinto in Decennali'' (or ''Notice of the Professors of Design, from Cimabue to now, from 1610–1670'') was a major art biography of Baroque painters. Written by the erudite Florentine professor of the ''Accademia della Crusca'', it is often verbose and rife with factual errors; however, it is a broad compendium of stories about generally contemporaneous Baroque painters. Dozens of Flemish and Dutch painters, including Rembrandt, were judged to merit inclusion. Though Baldinucci may have met some of these Northern painters on their travels to Italy, the majority of the Dutch and Flemish names he included had biographical notes under portraits engraved by Jan Meyssens, whose work was popular, and whose engravings were reused by Cornelis de Bie for his 1682 book ''Het Gulden Cabinet''. Rutilio di Lorenzo Manetti (c. 1571 – 22 July 1639) was an Italian painter of late- Mannerism or proto- Baroque, active mainly in Siena. Biography He was influenced and/or taught by the local artists Francesco Vanni and Ventura Salimbeni. He is known to have collaborated with Raffaello Vanni, the son of Francesco. Among his masterpieces are his contributions to the Casino Mediceo, which he worked alongside Matteo Rosselli, Giovanni Lanfranco, and Cesare Dandini. One of his pupils or followers is Stefano Volpi. Chiarissimo d'Antonio Fancelli (died 1632) was an Italian sculptor and architect of the late-Mannerist and Baroque periods, mainly active in Tuscany. Sigismondo Coccapani
Sigismondo Coccapani (1585 - 1643) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Born in Florence, he studied under Ludovico Cigoli in Rome, before returning to his native city. Life Coccapani was born at Florence in 1585. He at first studied literature and mathematics, but abandoned them for painting, becoming a pupil of Ludovico Cigoli in Rome where he assisted him on his work at Santa Maria Maggiore in 1610–13. Using his scientific background he showed Cigoli, who was making a record of solar activity for his friend Galileo, how to observe and record sunspots through a method of projection.Reeves 1999, p.5 Coccapani also studied architecture with Bernardo Buontalenti. Giovanni Coccapani (1582 – 1649) was an Italian painter and architect of the Baroque period. Born in Florence, his family was originally from Carpi. He was the brother of Sigismondo Coccapani. He travelled through Lombardy and was patronized by Duke Alfonso III in Modena. A number of architectural designs were collected by the lawyer Eustachio Cabassi of Carpi. Roelant Savery
Roelant Savery (or ''Roeland(t) Maertensz Saverij'', or ''de Savery'', or many variants; 1576 – buried 25 February 1639) was a Flanders-born Dutch Golden Age painter. Life Savery was born in Kortrijk. Like so many other artists, he belonged to an Anabaptist family that fled north from the Spanish-occupied Southern Netherlands when Roelant was about 4 years old and settled in Haarlem around 1585. He was taught painting by his older brother Jacob Savery (c. 1565 – 1603) and Hans Bol. After his schooling, Savery traveled to Prague around 1604, where he became court painter of the Emperors Rudolf II (1552–1612) and Mathias (1557–1619), who had made their court a center of mannerist art. Between 1606 and 1608 he traveled to Tyrol to study plants. Gillis d'Hondecoeter became his pupil. Before 1616 Savery moved back to Amsterdam, and lived in the Sint Antoniesbreestraat. Adam Willaerts (21 July 1577 – 4 April 1664) was a Dutch Golden Age painter. Biography Willaerts (occasionally ''Willarts'', ''Willers'') was born in London to Flemish parents who had fled from Antwerp for religious reasons. By 1585 the family lived in Leiden. From 1597 until his death, Adam lived and worked in Utrecht. He became a member of the Utrecht Guild of St. Luke in 1611 and subsequently became its dean in 1620. His sons Cornelis, Abraham, and Isaac followed in his footsteps. He was known as a painter of river and canal pieces, coastal landscapes, fish-markets, processions, and genre scenes. Willem or Guiliam van Nieulandt, sometimes Nieuwelandt (1584–1635) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, engraver, poet and playwright from Antwerp. Biography His father Adrien van Nieulandt the elder was born to a family of artists of Flemish origin from Antwerp. He moved with his family to Amsterdam in 1589, after the Siege of Antwerp, probably because they were Protestants. His three sons Willem van Nieulandt II (named for his uncle, also a painter), Adriaen van Nieulandt the younger, and Jacob van Nieulandt all became painters. Willem was a pupil of Roelant Savery in 1599, and in 1601 he travelled to Rome, where he became a student of Paulus Bril. According to Arnold Houbraken, he specialized in painting artistic ruins of monuments, arches, and temples, many of which he then engraved himself.
