Dominic Jordan Artis (born July 7, 1993) is an American-born Kosovan professional basketball player for SIG Strasbourg of the French LNB Pro A. College career Artis played NCAA Division I college basketball at the University of Oregon, with the Oregon Ducks men's basketball, Oregon Ducks, from 2012 to 2014. After his sophomore season, he and teammates Damyean Dotson and Brandon Austin were dismissed due to sexual assault allegations. Artis Lane
Artis Lane (born Artis Shreve) is a Canadian sculptor and painter. Her bronze bust of Sojourner Truth is on display in Emancipation Hall at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. It was unveiled in 2009, and was the first statue in the Capitol to represent an African-American woman. Lane's sculpture of Rosa Parks was on display in the Oval Office during the presidency of Joe Biden. Cameron Artis-Payne (born June 23, 1990) is an American professional football running back. He played college football at Auburn, and was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft. Early life Artis-Payne attended Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He spent one year at Milford Academy in New Berlin, New York after graduating from high school. Art for art's sake—the usual English rendering of (), a French slogan from the latter half of the 19th century—is a phrase that expresses the philosophy that 'true' art is utterly independent of all social values and utilitarian functions, be they didactic, moral, or political. Such works are sometimes described as '' autotelic'' (from Greek: ''autoteles'', 'complete in itself'), a concept also applied to "inner-directed" or "self-motivated" persons. Artis Bibliotheek (English: Artis Library) is a nineteenth-century library located at Plantage Middenlaan 45 in Amsterdam. Since 2005, the Artis Bibliotheek has been part of the Special Collections at the University of Amsterdam. History In 1838, Zoological Society Natura Artis Magistra was founded by a number of Amsterdam notables, including bookseller and bird lover Gerardus Frederik Westerman (1807-1890). The aim was "to promote the knowledge of natural history." This was done by founding the Natura Artis Magistra, Artis Zoo and a zoological museum and a library. The society immediately received donations (including one from Westerman) for the library. With these donations, the library was able to stock its shelves. Natura Artis Magistra (Latin for "Nature is the teacher of art"), commonly known just as Artis (), is a zoo and botanical garden in the centre of Amsterdam. It is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and fifth oldest zoo in the world. In addition to the zoo, Artis also contains an aquarium, a planetarium, an arboretum, Micropia, and the Groote Museum. The Artis Award is based on popular vote and is presented for achievements in French-Canadian (French-speaking Quebecer, Québécois) television; called in French the Prix Artis. Many notable Québécois performing artists have been honored with this award, like Rémy Girard (2006). The Artis Award is the successor of the MetroStar Award. Artis, known professionally as Artis the Spoonman (born October 3, 1948), is an American street performer and musician from Seattle, Washington, who uses spoons as a musical instrument. He frequents the Pike Place Market accompanying singer/songwriter and guitarist Jim Page with his collection of spoons of different shapes and sizes and materials spread out on a blanket. Artis Rasmanis (born 1971) is a retired Latvian sidecarcross passenger and five times World Champion. Rasmanis was part of the most successful partnership in sidecarcross world championship history, winning five titles with his driver Kristers Serģis. He retired from international sidecar competition after their fifth title in 2002.
