''Arthur'' is an animated television series developed by Marc Brown (author), Marc Brown and Kathy Waugh and produced by WGBH-TV, WGBH Boston for PBS. Based on Brown's ''Arthur'' book series, it is set in the fictional American city of Elwood City and revolves around the lives of Arthur Read, an anthropomorphic aardvark, his friends and family, and their daily interactions with each other. Production on the series was first announced in 1995 by WGBH and Montreal-based animation studio Cookie Jar Entertainment, CINAR, and aired its first episode on October 7, 1996 on PTV, later renamed PBS Kids.
