Arth is a village, a town, and a municipality in Schwyz District in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. The municipality consists of the villages Arth, Oberarth, and Goldau. The four settlements Rigi Kulm, Rigi First, Rigi Klösterli, and Rigi Staffel on the mountain Rigi to the west of Arth are also part of the municipality. History Arth is first mentioned in 1036 as ''Arta''. In 1353 it was mentioned as ''ze Arth''. Geography Arth has an area, , of . Of this area, 40.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 46.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 8.5% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (4.3%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains). The municipality is situated on the southern shore of Lake Zug, and along the Gotthard route between Rigi and Rossberg. Jeanne Arth (born July 21, 1935) is an American tennis player who won women's doubles titles at the Wimbledon Championships and the U.S. National Championships. Arth graduated from Central High School in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1952 and attended the College of St. Catherine. Arth and her partner Darlene Hard Darlene Ruth Hard (January 6, 1936 – December 2, 2021) was an American professional tennis player, known for her aggressive volleying ability and strong serves. Thomas Edward Arth (born May 11, 1981) is an American football coach and former player. He is a passing game specialist for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL), a position he had held since 2022. Arth served as the head football coach at John Carroll University from 2013 to 2016, the University of Tennessee Chattanooga from 2017 to 2018, and the University of Akron from 2019 to 2021.
