Art Gallery Of Ballarat
The Art Gallery of Ballarat is the oldest regional art gallery in Australia. It was established in 1884 as the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery by a company of interested citizens led by James Oddie. It initially rented out the first floor of the Ballarat Academy of Music; the current building on Lydiard Street North opened in 1890. The gallery was privately owned until financial insecurity led to the building and collection being handed over to the City of Ballarat, Ballarat City Council in 1977. In 2008, the gallery adopted its current name and became a free-entry venue. Louise Tegart is the gallery's current director. The Art Gallery of Ballarat is a tourist attraction for Ballarat. Listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, its two-storey building is one of the city's most historically significant. Ballarat
Ballarat ( ) () is a city in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 census, Ballarat had a population of 111,973, making it the third-largest urban inland city in Australia and the third-largest city in Victoria. Within months of Victoria separating from the colony of New South Wales in 1851, gold was discovered near Ballarat, sparking the Victorian gold rush. Ballarat subsequently became a thriving boomtown that for a time rivalled Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, in terms of wealth and cultural influence. In 1854, following a period of civil disobedience in Ballarat over gold licenses, local miners launched an armed uprising against government forces. ABC Ballarat, callsign 3CRR, is an ABC Local Radio station in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. ABC Ballarat is one of the newest stations in the network, opened on 30 June 2003. The station is the largest regional ABC station in Victoria and is home to a team of broadcasters, journalists, program-makers and online producers, providing news, programs and online content primarily about serves Ballarat, Ararat and Daylesford, as well as parts of south-west Victoria including Hamilton, Port Fairy, and Warrnambool through ABC South West Victoria. ''Broadsheet'' is an Australian mostly online city guide and culture magazine, founded by Nick Shelton in October 2009 and still run by him. The website covers news related to food and drink, fashion, art and design, entertainment, and health and fitness. It also has an extensive directory of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops which contains imagery and short descriptions of each venue. Print editions have been produced in the past. History Nick Shelton was living in London circa 2005 and 2006, and working as a barista. When he returned home to Melbourne, he was impressed by the culinary scene but noticed no one was covering it in depth.
