Arsenal F.C. Under-23s And Academy
Arsenal Football Club Academy, metonymically known as Hale End, is the youth system of Arsenal Football Club based in Hale End, London, England. The academy teams play in the Professional Development League, the highest level of youth football in England. The club also competes in the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League competitions. Former player Per Mertesacker is the current academy manager. Arsenal Under-21s, previously referred to as the Reserves, is the highest level squad within the setup. They train at the Arsenal Training Centre and play the majority of their home games at Meadow Park, which is the home of Boreham Wood FC. On occasion they also play at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium. Senior players occasionally play in the reserve side, as in the case when they are recovering from injury. Meadow Park (Borehamwood)
Meadow Park is a football ground in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, England. It is the home ground of Boreham Wood F.C. and Arsenal youth teams. It is the former home ground of Arsenal W.F.C., who still play some matches there. Meadow Park is also the name of the public park which includes the football ground, as well as children's play areas, tennis courts, multi-sports courts, interactive play, a teen shelter, football pitches, open grassland and a wildflower meadow. London Challenge Cup
The London Challenge Cup was a association football, football tournament formerly organised by the London Football Association, London FA. It was first contested in 1908, and other than during the World Wars, was contested every season until 1974, when the tournament was disbanded. After a 16-year hiatus, the tournament was resurrected in 1990–91, but only lasted 10 years before being once again discontinued. In its original guise, the tournament was won by most of the major professional clubs in London such as Arsenal F.C., Arsenal, Chelsea F.C., Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United F.C., West Ham United, but the quality of entrants after the revival was lower, with all the winners except Leyton Orient F.C., Leyton Orient in 1992–93 being non-League clubs. The Football Combination was a football competition for the reserve teams of English Football League clubs from Southern England, the Midlands and Wales; other clubs from the Midlands and those from the North playing in the Central League (it is not to be confused with the Combination, a league for teams from North West England which existed at the turn of the 20th century). History The Combination was inaugurated in 1915 with twelve founder members: Arsenal, Brentford, Chelsea, Clapton Orient, Croydon Common, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford and West Ham United. The 1908–09 season was the 38th season of competitive football in England. Overview Tottenham Hotspur played their first ever season in the Football League, gaining promotion to the First Division in the process. Spurs, along with Bradford Park Avenue entered the Second Division to replace Lincoln City and Stoke. This year started a new competition: the Charity Shield; a match between the champion of the Professional League vs. the champion of the Amateur League. The first championship went to Manchester United, in a replayed final against Queens Park Rangers. Events *5 December 1908– Sunderland defeat Newcastle United 9-1, after the game was tied 1-1 at half-time. This is the joint biggest away victory in the top division in Football League history.
