Mu Draconis
Mu Draconis (μ Draconis, abbreviated Mu Dra, μ Dra) is a multiple star system near the head of the constellation of Draco (constellation), Draco. With a combined magnitude (astronomy), magnitude of 4.92, it is visible to the naked eye. Based on stellar parallax, parallax estimates by the Hipparcos spacecraft, it is located approximately 89 light-years from the Sun. The system consists of a single primary star (designated Mu Draconis A, officially named Alrakis from the traditional name of the system), a secondary binary star, binary pair (Mu Draconis B) and a further single star (C). B's two components are designated Mu Draconis Ba and Bb. Mu Draconis A and Ba are nearly identical F-type main-sequence stars, with masses of and , respectively. Both have the stellar classification, spectral class of F5V, and have similar apparent magnitude, at 5.66 and 5.69, respectively. The secondary, Mu Draconis B, has a drifting radial velocity, and is itself a spect ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Arrakis
Arrakis ()—informally known as Dune and later called Rakis—is a fictional desert planet featured in the ''Dune'' series of novels by Frank Herbert. Herbert's first novel in the series, 1965's ''Dune'', is considered one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, and is among the best-selling science fiction novels in history. In ''Dune'', Arrakis is the most important planet in the universe, as it is the only source of the drug melange. Melange (or, "the spice") is the most essential and valuable commodity in the universe, as it extends life and makes safe interstellar travel possible (among other uses). Harvesting the spice is also hazardous in the extreme, due to both the harsh climate of the planet and the fact that melange deposits are guarded by giant sandworms. Arrakis is also the home of the Fremen, a people conditioned by the planet's harsh environment, and becomes the capital of the Atreides Empire. Environment and the spice A desert planet with no ... Frank Herbert
Franklin Patrick Herbert Jr. (October 8, 1920February 11, 1986) was an American science-fiction author, best known for his 1965 novel Dune (novel), ''Dune'' and its five sequels. He also wrote short stories and worked as a newspaper journalist, photographer, book reviewer, ecological consultant, and lecturer. ''Dune'' is the best-selling science fiction novel of all time, and the series is a classic of the science-fiction genre. The Dune (franchise), ''Dune'' saga, set in the distant future and taking place over millennia, explores complex themes, such as the long-term survival of the human species, human evolution, planetary science and ecology, and the intersection of religion, politics, economics, sex, and power (sociology), power in a future where humanity has long since developed interstellar travel and colonized many thousands of worlds. The series has been adapted numerous times, including the feature film David Lynch's ''Dune (1984 film), Dune'' (1984), the miniseries ' ... Dune (novel)
''Dune'' is a 1965 epic science fiction novel by American author Frank Herbert, originally published as two separate serials (1963–64 novel ''Dune World'' and 1965 novel ''Prophet of Dune'') in '' Analog'' magazine. It tied with Roger Zelazny's '' This Immortal'' for the Hugo Award for Best Novel and won the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1966. It is the first installment of the ''Dune Chronicles''. It is one of the world's best-selling science fiction novels. ''Dune'' is set in the distant future in a feudal interstellar society, descended from terrestrial humans, in which various noble houses control planetary fiefs. It tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose family reluctantly accepts the stewardship of the planet Arrakis. While the planet is an inhospitable and sparsely populated desert wasteland, it is the only source of melange or "spice", an enormously valuable drug that extends life and enhances mental abilities. Melange is also necessary for space ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Canopus
Canopus is the brightest star in the southern constellation of Carina (constellation), Carina and the list of brightest stars, second-brightest star in the night sky. It is also Bayer designation, designated α Carinae, which is Romanization, romanized (Transliteration, transliterated) to Alpha Carinae. With a visual apparent magnitude of −0.74, it is outshone only by Sirius. Located around from the Sun, Canopus is a bright giant of spectral type A9, so it is essentially white when seen with the naked eye. It has a luminosity over 10,000 times the luminosity of the Sun, is nine to ten times as mass of the Sun, massive, and has expanded to 71 times the Sun's radius. Its enlarged photosphere has an effective temperature of around . Canopus is undergoing stellar core, core helium fusion, helium burning and is currently in the so-called blue loop phase of its stellar evolution, evolution, having already passed through the red-giant branch after exhausting the h ... Arrakis Planitia
Arrakis Planitia is a planitia (plain) on Titan, the largest moon of the planet Saturn. It is located in Titan's southern hemisphere, between 74 and 80° south and 113–134° east, within the Mezzoramia region. Arrakis Planitia is named after Arrakis, a fictional desert planet that is featured prominently in Frank Herbert's ''Dune A dune is a landform composed of wind- or water-driven sand. It typically takes the form of a mound, ridge, or hill. An area with dunes is called a dune system or a dune complex. A large dune complex is called a dune field, while broad, flat ...'' novels. Arrakis Therapeutics
Arrakis Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company developing oral medicines that target RNA to treat a range of diseases. The company is based in Waltham, Massachusetts, and was founded in 2015 by Jennifer Petter, now the company's Chief Innovation Officer. In October 2016, Michael Gilman, a former Biogen executive, was named CEO. In 2017, the company raised a $38 million investment from venture capital firm Canaan Partners as well as Celgene and Pfizer. Arrakis was founded to focus on purposefully discovering RNA-targeting small molecule drugs. Other companies had previously discovered drugs based on RNA-targeting small molecules, however, they were found opportunistically. Arrakis has been able to identify RNA binding sites where small molecule drugs can bind using a bioinformatics tool. The company also utilizes chemical biology tools to confirm whether their compounds are inhibiting RNA cells, and also whether the compounds are specifically ... ARRAKIHS
ARRAKIHS is a planned astronomical satellite mission by European Space Agency (ESA). It will study dark matter haloes of galaxies. It was selected in 2022, and is expected to be launched in the early 2030's. ARRAKIHS will observe 75 galaxies for 150 hours each (9750 hours). It is the second F-class ("fast") mission and the first ESA Science Programme mission led from Spain. The small satellite of around 300 kg will be placed in a Sun-Synchronous Low Earth Orbit at an altitude of approximately 800 km. Name The mission is named after a planet Arrakis from science fiction novel ''Dune''. The name is a backronym of "Analysis of Resolved Remnants of Accreted galaxies as a Key Instrument for Halo Surveys". Instruments The spacecraft will use two binocular visible and near-infrared cameras developed by Spanish company Satlantis. The cameras are based on the iSIM-170 model that has been tested in space on the ISS. Timeline * In November 2022, ESA selected ARRAKIHS as its second F ...
