Arnold, Missouri
Arnold is a city in northeastern Jefferson County, Missouri, situated near the confluence of the Meramec and Mississippi rivers. A suburb of St. Louis, the city lies within the Greater St. Louis metropolitan statistical area. The population was 20,858 at the 2020 United States census, which makes it the most populous community in the county. History The Osage peoples were the first people that lived in what today is Arnold, many artifacts have been found in the area that show there was an ancient Osage village near where the Meramec River meets the Mississippi River. It is located 18.78 miles south of Baltimore, and 29.97 miles east of Washington, D.C. The population was 23,106 at the 2010 census. Arnold, California
Arnold is a census-designated place (CDP) in Calaveras County, California, United States. The population was 3,288 at the 2020 census. Arnold is located on State Route 4. History Arnold is named after Bob and Bernice Arnold, who, in 1927 opened the Ebbetts Pass Inn. Prior to that, the community consisted of two large ranches where logging was the main industry. The inn served as a stop for people traveling along the Ebbetts Pass route as well as lodging for those visiting nearby Calaveras Big Trees State Park. In 1928, Camp Wolfeboro was established nearby as a Boy Scout camp and continues to be in operation today. The first post office was opened in 1934. Bernice was its postmistress at one time. In 2015 power lines sparked the Butte Fire, which destroyed 549 homes in nearby communities. Arnold was saved when the weather changed, but the fire caused an increased focus on fire safety, although the community was still, in 2019, considered a "very high fire hazard severity zone ... Arnold is a former census-designated place (CDP), which was located in Rice Lake, Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,960 at the 2010 census. The census-designated place of Arnold was located entirely within the former Rice Lake Township, adjacent to the north side of the city of Duluth. Rice Lake Township was incorporated as the city of Rice Lake on October 22, 2015, thus rendering the census-designated place of Arnold to no longer exist. The name "Arnold", as a place of residence, had been seldom used in the present day by the younger generations. The Arnold Arboretum is a botanical research institution and free public park affiliated with Harvard University and located in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale, Massachusetts, Roslindale neighborhoods of Boston. The Arnold was one of the first automobile, motor cars manufactured in the United Kingdom. It was produced in East Peckham, Kent between 1896 and 1898. History William Arnold & Sons of East Peckham, Kent, was an agricultural engineering company founded in about 1844. In 1895 they acquired a licence to build Benz & Cie., Benz cars. As the Arnold Motor Carriage Co. from 1896 to 1898. the firm built twelve cars patterned after the Benz but fitted with their own engines. Two Arnolds were exhibited at The Crystal Palace, Crystal Palace in 1896. Louise Bazalgette and William Arnold's partner, Henry Hewetson, were photographed at the historic "emancipation run" which is the race still celebrated by the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
